This thing works! Voila!! Your melon will look like a big juicy open flower of melon slices!!
This thing works! After seeing numerous comments from frustrated buyers let me pass on my experience/tips for this slicer....First- You MUST cut a chunk off each end of the watermelon creating nice flat area on both ends. This makes the melon sit nice and flat on its bottom AND a nice flat area on top to place the slicer. You MUST also expose, at least somewhat, the actual melon inside. The more you expose, within reason, the easier it will be to cut. Try to cut the normal rounded rind end of the melon and you will fail to slice it or exhaust yourself trying....The included serrated knife is pretty good at sawing through the rind to make the flat ends.Second- Center the slicer as best you can on top of the melon and put downward pressure on one side and then pressure on the other side in a see -saw motion. A straight vertical slice is near impossible. So push downward with some body weight behind it from right to left and repeat. Jiggle right, jiggle left..Sometimes I am almost horizontal over the melon while pushing downward. The blades should creep down slowly at first but at some point when you are past the top rind you should be able to push the slicer WAY down...all the way to the bottom!Voila!! Your melon will look like a big juicy open flower of melon slices!!This thing has become a party favorite wherever we go! It's almost like performing a magic trick for your guests with lots of oohs & ahhs.....The effort varies from melon to melon but I feel it is worth the effort and leaves a nice perfectly sliced melon for all to enjoy!See someones Youtube video if you want to see it in action...[...](Amazon killed the link..search for "My test of the Perfect Slicer" on YouTube)Photos from other reviewers...

Idea was good, application was not.
My husband saw this at a store and surprised me with it. Instructions said to cut off the ends. I also cut it through the middle with the knife provided. Not very sharp! It is serrated and looks more like a bread knife. Next I tried the slicer. It was hard for me to push it down. I stood on a stool and pressed my weight against it. My hardest. Not much happened. I seesawed it back and forth and moved it an inch. My husband called me a wuss and took over with groans but cut it all the way down.. He is a strong man. I took the knife I usually use and cut the other half easily. I should mention that the knife comes with a plastic sleeve. The knife slides in the sleeve. The bottom of the slicer has a cover to protect the blades and keep you safe. Basically it is a giant apple slicer.

The device does take some effort to go through a large melon but it does work. I've had the most success in working one side and then the other in a see-saw fashion. it is a slow process but it works. Suggest cutting a longer melon in half. That would facilitate the process in that you'd be able to apply a more effective downward force. The prize is the watermelon heart that comes out as a seedless column the length size of the fruit.
