Astronaut Kalpana Chawla, Reaching for the Stars (Amazing Asian Americans)

This was an amazing children’s book based on a true story and the art illustration was simply beautiful, definitely a great read for both children and adults

I've read all three books in this series, and while I was familiar with Vera Wang and Yo-Yo Ma, I had never heard of Kalpana Chawla. As an Indian American woman astronaut she certainly deserves to be better known. Although I bought the book for my children, I enjoyed reading it myself. I was especially impressed with the fact that both failure and success were addressed in the story. Thank you for sending the message to our children that making a mistake, even a big mistake, can be part of life and something to overcome. This is an inspiring and impressive story. Kalpana's death aboard the Shuttle Columbia was sensitively handled. Here was a woman who did exactly what she set out to do. The fact that she died trying is given context in her full life. Ai-Ling Louie writes wonderful books that bring to life the stories of fascinating people.
