Fixed my AC
Thermostat went dark and Carrier furnace had error code 24 (two flashes followed by four). Repeatedly blew the little purple 3 amp type E fuse on the 24v circuit board in the furnace. Watching YouTube led me to the contactor in the AC unit outside. Was able to DIY swapping this in for the HN51KC024 that was in there. Solved! Saved several hundred $ and weeks of delay with little effort. Extra clue this was the failure was ohms measured very little resistance on the bad one measured between the reel terminals on the sides, in comparison to low ohms of the new one that doesn’t have a shorted coil. Would still recommend trying this even if you don’t have an ohm meter because it is so cheap and fast to try. Slight different visual appearance than the original it replaced but layout is similar enough for me as novice to swap wires across with basic screwdriver, small wrench or socket driver. Do turn breakers off and confirm no power and wear rubber gloves to avoid shock if you are poking around in a furnace or AC unit, and call a pro if in doubt!
