Black Vintage Shepard Hook Solar Lantern Outdoor Light

I bought this as an accent lamp for my landscape. I already have wired lights that go along the path to my house and wanted to add a Shepard hook lantern without having to have electric work done. This solar lantern fit the bill. I like that I have the option of hanging it on a Shepard hook or you can simply insert the piece in the bottom and use it as a stake. The batteries inside are already charged and it lit up as soon as I turned it on out of the packaging in a slightly dark room.The only negative is the light is very "white" it is bright too which is a plus but I'm referring to the color it gives off. It's more of the color a flashlight would give off than a warmer ambient lighting. It doesnt match wired lighting which gives a little more of a natural, warmer glow to your landscape. It didn't match the warm color of the solar lights I have on my steps either. ( I took pictures to show how the color differs next to other outdoor lighting) For me it's okay because the lantern will be far enough away from any existing lights and used just as an accent. But for anyone wanting to match these to existing lights in their yard, solar or wired... keep in mind the color is very "white". It might look odd if you put these close to any other types of lights. If it came in a slightly more subdued light color I would have given it 5 stars.UPDATE : After a couple days of having this lantern I had to return it. The color of the light was just too bluish compared to my exterior house lighting. The more I looked at it, the less I liked it. It looked really odd outside in the dark. For me the search continues...

Bought these for my mother because she wanted something to put near her driveway. She put them up the day she got them and absolutely loves them. Her driveway crosses over a ditch and the light provides enough light to guide you safely to the house at night.

The lanterns seem to work very well - they're bright and remain lit for a long time. My only negative is the shepherd hook holders, which come in three pieces and screw together. The short (~1 inch) threaded rod that joins the sections tends to screw back into one of the sections when trying to join them. This results in the second section not having enough of a "grab" to the first. The shepherd hook holders then keep coming apart. I had to solve this problem by using super glue on one end of the threaded connecting rods so they would stay in place while the other section was screwed on.

For the cost, the lights are decent, not great. Shipping and assembly was fast and easy with easy to read directions. Placing them was simple and they seem rather steady in the ground. I do wish the stems in the ground were a tad bit longer, but they work as is. They lit up lightly where we placed then originally, but they weren't getting enough light so we moved them. The first night they did great. They shine a really pretty color and stay lit almost all night, which is perfect! Unfortunately, they are not bright enough for what we wanted, we have a lot of all night light and these lights just can not be seen on the ground and light nothing really. But they are VERY pretty to look at.Biggest issue: the second night after placing them in a better lit location with full sun, one of them just stopped working. So now, I'm down to only 2 instead of 3.Overall, they're cheap and pretty. If where you want to place them is dark dark at night, I imagine they will be very nice. Not going to work for us, but not a bad product even though one stopped working almost immediately.

I purchased a new solar lantern after the used one I previously purchased from Amazon did not work at all and arrived with some pieces chipped off or missing. I like the four solar panels and black vintage look for my yard. However, I am kinda disappointed with the lack of the actual brightness, even after a full solar charge. I would not buy this again.

Looks nice, but it doesn't work. I bought two of these and I took too long to install them and the return window has closed. One of the lights work (though it's not very bright... disappointing), but the other one doesn't. I thought that maybe I put the non-working one in too shady of a place, so I moved it. Still didn't work. I checked the switch... oops! It was in the off position, so I turned it on. Still didn't work. I finally took it apart to see if the battery had gotten dislodged. Then I discovered the problem. There are wires that have gotten disconnected and there's no way to see how to reconnect them. Very disappointing. Such a waste of money. :(

Two problems I already see with this product, having used them for less than a week: 1) Considering the solar panel area and the number of LEDs, it really isn't any brighter than the smaller fixtures. 2) Although the housing seems sturdy, there is a weak spot to the design: The hanging loop at the top of the lantern. I'd recommend buying a tube of super glue to go with these lanterns to reattach the hanging loop at the top. About half of them break off and drop the lantern to the ground with help from nothing other than gravity.

Updated review...Absolutely not happy!! Style is super cute did not work. I BOUGHT NEW SOLAR BATTERIES... still awful!! A tiny dim night light is 5 times brighter than these. Barely illuminate at all! Waste of money. The little they do illuminate, only lasts a few hours will them in full sun all day every day

Don't normally write product reviews, but decided in this instance it was warranted.Received product in good time, but box was damaged. Thankfully the little lantern was ok.Product description said the shepherd's hook was included but did not receive it. Little lantern is cute.But, with all that being said, I would probably not order this product again. Not worth the money.

I tried for a few days to charge this light and tried a variety of batteries.

I thought these lights would be brighter than they are. The wind knocked a few lights down and the top cap broke off. Had to glue them all. Not very good quality. Another problem the broken solar was returned Sept. 17. They just took the money from my visa saying it wasn't returned. Returned in the same box with Canada post label on it.

One of the lights stopped working within three days of use. It has been replaced. Two of the items received were not assembled correctly. I had to fix myself. That being said these lights are not the simplest to work with. Screwdriver required. My old ones did not require any tools batteries. THe light emitted is bright and seems to last a fair amount of time, we will se what the life span on these is going to be.

The hanger at the top of the lantern is oval, not round creating a problem for the shepherd hook we use and it comes separate from the lantern. It very easily broke and the light intermittently fails to come on for no apparent reason when it should.
