Christmas Classic: The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus (Illustrated)

This is a book I'll reread every Christmas Season. I love L. Frank Baum to begin with, and I think this is one of my favorites.

Beautiful read and a charming story. We read this aloud with our children during Christmas time and it added to the magic. Reads in a wonderful following prose that writing today lacks. It made us want to re-read all the stories of Oz!

I am so glad to know about this lovely Christmas classic written by Baum. Having always loved the Wizard of Oz, and now in my fifties, this is the first time having read this story.

This book was a delight. The only caveat is the treatment of Native Americans in one brief chapter. Much better account of Santa than the old Santa Claus is coming to town stop action program.

I discovered this Victorian children's novel via a rabbit hole, as I researched the artist Mary Cowles Clarke (MCC on her sketches). I was charmed by her pixies and whimsical sketches in a 1912 cookbook "The Hostess of To-Day, written by Linda Hull Larned. Clarke is best known for this cookbook and the first edition of The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. But I am not the only reader charmed by Clarke's art, evidenced by the sales of her drawings by online lithographers. The children's book is classic L. Frank Baum, circa 1902 , detailing the adoption of the abandoned infant Claus and adoption by a nymph through his later career and immortality. Charming with some scary parts such as the war against Claus by the evil trolls but ends happily.

This is a great backstory for Santa Claus and I wish I had known it existed when I was a kid. It really captures the christmas spirit and is a must read every december
