This mackerel is the fifth (and best) Matiz product that I've tried. Their sardines are good, but there are several Spanish and Portuguese brands that I like more, so I rarely get them. Unlike their sardines, these mackerel are canned in extra virgin olive oil, which is subtle but noticeably better than the neutral olive oil their sardines are canned with. The mackerel are mild in flavor and have a good texture.This isn't the best mackerel I've had, and the three ounce cans are smaller than the industry average, but currently these can be purchased for just over $4 per can if they are bought in a 12 pack, which feels like a good deal based on their quality. These will likely join Angelo Parodi as my current go-to mackerel cans.

Lower protein and omegas than other brands. Cans are very difficult to open.
