Worth it just for the gold & silver powders and the applicator
First of all I am not a nail tech nor do I manicure other people; I am simply a hobbyist who loves nail powders. Also, I am a professional cosmetic chemist so I can give a little insight into the powders themselves. In my opinion this set is worth the price just for the gold and silver powders & the dual-end applicator. Having used makeup sponges prior to having this applicator the difference is monumental. I find that “grabbing” a little powder with the brush, tapping it onto the nail, and then buffing the powder in with the sponge-y applicator gives the best results. In the pictures I’ve used only the brush head for the forefinger and ring finger, but used the application method described above for the middle and pinky fingers. You can see the sponge-y tip does a much better job at providing a smooth and seamless result. That is because . . .. . . As others have noted a few jars contain a powder which looks dull and somewhat gray. This is a bulking powder which reflects the light refracted by the special FX particles so that the effect is still visible without using a lot of the extremely expensive special FX powders. These special pigments are very costly and I know this set would easily be at least four times as expensive if they ONLY used the special FX powders with no bulking agent. This bulking agent is also a more spherical shape than the special FX powders, which means it doesn’t readily adhere to the sponge-y tip; this is where the aforementioned application method comes in handy. Here’s a breakdown of the colors in the order they appear in my pictures:There’s an intense silver holo; There’s an intense gold holo beside that; There’s a finely milled pinky-purple that is a holographic magenta; There’s a chunkier pinky-purple that is a deeper magenta chrome (this is the jar with the most visible amount of bulking powder, seen in the pictures) beside the holo magenta; There’s a finely milled blue which is the holographic blue; There’s a chunkier blue which is the deep navy chrome beside the holo blue; There’s a green-blue-indigo- violet multichrome; There’s a fuchsia-red-yellow-green multichrome beside the former multichrome; All powders are very reflective and impressive even without a topcoat. My favorite powders by far are the gold and silver holographic powders. Not only does there seem to be zero bulking powder, the effect they give is extremely high-quality. They are finely milled, very reflective, and the tiniest bit will give you full coverage. All of the powders require minimal product to result in full opacity, but the gold and silver powders take it to a completely new level. I genuinely can’t rave about them enough. Also worth noting, these powders require a topcoat in order to stay put. All of the pictures I’ve provided are WITHOUT a topcoat as I was running low on gel polish, so with a topcoat the effects will be much more pronounced. If you don’t apply a topcoat the powders will begin to come off in no time. Always use these over cured gel polish and seal them in with a gel topcoat for best results.

Pretty and works with regular polish
I bought this for the multichrome colors, but I was a little curious about the different colors of holo too. I was a little underwhelmed by the silver holo but luckily I already had a better one. The rest of the colors are great! The gold is very chrome-y which was a pleasant surprise. The blue and pink are barely shiny at all but all 3 have a nice holo effect in direct lighting. The multichromes were all very shiny and pretty.FYI you can use this with regular polish. Here is how I did it:1. Put on your base color and wait for it to be totally dry so that it doesn’t dent easily2. Put on 1 thin coat of a “sticky” or “rubberized” base coat (I use orly bonder base coat)3. Wait about 60 seconds until it’s dry but still a little tacky. Timing may vary but don’t wait too long.4. Use an eyeshadow applicator to very gently rub it in (not included btw). Start off *very* gently and then you can use a tiny bit more pressure as you feel comfortable.5. (Optional) wait maybe another minute or two and then burnish the nail with the silicone tool to give it a tiny bit of extra shine. Don’t go too hard though.6. Use 2 thin coats of water based top coatand wait for it to dry as directed. (I use Piggy Polish because it was the only one I could find)7. Use whatever regular top coat you want.I will note that seche vite *can* still glitter out the finish a little bit if you aren’t careful, but 2 coats of water based top coat does a better job at preventing that than 1. Sally Hansen color therapy top coat is a little more forgiving.

7 out of 8 powders were beautiful, but one is defective
7 out of the 8 powders were beautiful. They were easy to use and buffed into the nail beautifully. My pink Holo powder applied patchy and dull. I followed all the directions as on the website (cured a no wipe top coat for 30 secs, used the silicone applicator). Every other powder applied perfectly fine except for this one. The pink also stained my applicator on both sides. Seems like that batch of pink has some quality control issues.edit: after testing various application methods for the pink powder, I finally got it to work (first picture shows the pink finally working). I did two coats, cured my no wipe top coat for 30 seconds, and used an eyeshadow applicator to apply the powder. it was still cloudy, but top coat seemed to mostly fix the cloudiness. still shouldn’t have to use a different application method and I still believe there is a quality issue with the pink, but I at least got it to work.

Unsure
The only color that showed up metallic so far is the pink. You need to use a lot for it to stick on your nail. I’ve used blue, silver, and chrome, with no success.

Pearl powder is even more stunning than the chrome
So this is my 2nd review but this time i used the pearl powder and I think I am in love. I bought both sets the color chrome which I wrote review last week (see red , chrome and blue 4th of July nails) This week i just wanted an everyday color so off with old in with the new. I will say since I never use gel polish before I am not a fan of the removal process watched several YouTube videos but it still took a good 2 hours of soaking and filing to get off all the layers. Afterwards I applied vitamin E over night, next day base coat then later that day I applied the pearl using a white OPI nail color then once almost dry but still tacky applied the powder and burnish it in. Used a paint brush to wipe off extra powder topped with no wipe gel, uv light then finally with just a basic clear top coat instead of a gel tip coat in hopes that these will be easier to remove. It's been a week and my nails still look great and top coat did not peel off even tough it was not gel top coat. Do yourself a favor and buy the pearl powder too. I can't want to start mixing them up to make custom colors.
