What Size tank can I use this cotton sponge filter for? This cotton sponge filter will work best in tanks up to 10.5 gallons when used singly. If you own a larger tank you can purchase two or more of these sponge filters and place on different sides of the tank. Considering their small size, you can easily hide these filters behind plants and other underwater décor. Why should I use an air pump with this filter and not a water pump? We recommend the air pump method as it is much easier for beginner aquarium keepers to set up. You buy this, hook it up to an airline tubing and an air pump...and go. The air pump is noiseless and won’t disturb your fish. It can be used in a quarantine (“hospital tank”), breeding or rearing tank, or as a tank for fish who prefer a slower current flow such as Neon Tetra or Betta. Can I use this sponge filter in conjunction with a HOB (Hang on the back) filter? Yes. Even if you already have another filter in your tank, you can use the sponge filter at the same time to upkeep your tropical fish tank. Your best results will be achieved by placing the sponge filter on one side and the hang-on power filter, or any other filter, on the opposite side. Can I place the filter straight into my aquarium? It is recommended to clear the tank and do the regular weekly water change before installing this filter. Recommendation: Replace this cotton every 5 to 6 months to ensure proper filtration. Steps to Use: 1. First of all, insert the plastic tube in the airline tubing (sold separately). 2. Insert one end of the airline tubing into the sponge filter. 3. Insert the other end of the airline tubing to the air pump. Now your device is ready to work.

Just a little too light
This filter works great, arrived ok, and never comes off the air line. But the weight is just an ounce or so too light - so the filter loves to float around in the bubbles and current. I’m using this in a sump and transfer it for quarantine tanks so this isn’t critical but I know this would be an issue for most uses.

Just the sponge and just what I wanted!
I knew whole purchasing this that it was only the sponge and it is a cheap, good quality filter system. i bought a air pump and some tubing for $8 making this filter only about $13. Lasts longer and is pretty easy to set up.

Eh!
I would recommend this for a 5 gallon tank doesn't do much for my 10 gallon. Had to get a all new filter for my 10 gallon because the one it came with the filters are no longer available so now I have this and the new filter just installed today. Both went in my all snail baby tank.

Buyer Beware
This is not a complete filter. You need to buy additional parts for this product to work. It was my own fault but I believe this could have been made clearer.

It does the job great! It actually came with tubes and a regulator and adjuster!

Nano sponge filter
Had to modify it a little to be able to run an air stone. Would be more suitable in 5 gallons and under in my humble opinion.
