Fab Fours TT-Y1351T-1 Spare Tire Carrier fits 05-15 Toyota Tacoma - 2 Stage Black Powder Coated

Overall I do not like this tire carrier. When the tailgate is down the side of the tailgate can rub on the swing gate unless im carefully lowering the tailgate. There is barely enough clearance to fit a piece of paper between the tailgate and the swing gate when the tail gate is down and the swing gate is locked in the open postion.The installation required a lot of Finessing to fit it onto the Fab Fours bumper. The hardware included was high end standard thread grade 8 yellow zinc coated bolts, washer and nuts. The powdercoating was oversprayed into some threads and the treads needed to be chased. The U bolt that latches the swing gate closed is too short and the treads do not reach the end of the locking nut. The swing gate locking pin would not thread all the way in even when using lube and channel locks to tighten. Drilling to the tire carrier locking latch was required since the holes did not line up to lock the swing gate closed.Overall a lot more effort, modifcation and a trip to the hardware store was needed to make sure the tire carrier fit and work as intended without much hassle. There's nothing i can do to fix the issue of clearance between the tailgate and the swing gate when both are open. The mounting plates for the swing gate were fitted outwards as much as possible to provide as much gap between the tail gate and swing gate. But there is still not enough clearance to easily open the tailgate without hitting the tailgate against the swing gate unless you are careful. To me that is a the major issue.Keep in mind if your Tacoma has a backup camera you will need to relocate the camera or buy a new one from a website called tailgate cameras.I hope this helps you modify your Tacoma the way you intend.
