Mastering Trading Psychology: Improve Your Trading with Firsthand Reports by Real-Life Traders

An important book for traders, but lacking editorial oversight
I gave this book five stars, because it addresses a crucial topic in trading and there are only a few publications out there seriously covering trading psychology. The market is saturated with books on "proven" techniques, which often fail to deliver, and "Mastering Trading Psychology" deserves recognition for its more substantial contribution to the trading "genre."That being said, the book needs some serious copy editing. In my review of Andrew Aziz's "Advanced Techniques for Day Trading," which was also self-published, I suggested that collaborating with a publishing house would help improve the content and structure of the book and the current volume further proves my point.Though "Mastering Trading Psychology" is technically co-authored by Andrew Aziz and Mike Baehr, it relies heavily on contributions from various members of the BearBull Traders forum, whose excerpts are copy-pasted into the chapters with only minimal edits. Aziz reiterates the collaborative nature of the work on multiple occasions in the introduction, but that acknowledgment does little to fix the inconsistencies with language flow and prose. These first-person accounts are often repetitive and long-winded, resulting in an awkward structure and a format that is sure to frustrate the reader. (They also include too much praise for Aziz and Baehr, which should be cut down significantly to avoid a self-aggrandizing tone.)Moreover, the authors incorporate parts of Aziz's previous publications, at times word for word. The chapter on resilience in trading, for instance, features excerpts (p. 67-68) from "Advanced Techniques of Day Trading" borrowed directly from the previous volume. In the same chapter, the authors also duplicate an existing paragraph, reproducing a fragment from page 66 on page 69, which causes further confusion. Examples of similar blunders can be found throughout the book.I understand that self-publishing gives Aziz and Baehr a degree of autonomy, but the resulting lapses in structure and language are very unfortunate, especially given that the book has great potential. It covers a number of crucial topics, from emotional control while in a trade to sleeping habits, which I have found to be extremely helpful. This is also why I think this book should be picked up by traders looking to improve their game and is definitely worth the money. Nonetheless, I hope that Aziz and Baehr will put more effort into the editorial process of their next project and/or the next edition of this book. I look forward to learning from them in the future.

Great for mental re-focus
I usually read a few pages of this book after a bad trading day or a big winning day/ streak when my heads getting to big. It’s full of story’s and messages from other traders that seem to go through the same trading phycology issues that I go through. As a beginner trader I think this book helps keep you grounded and stay focused on the big picture.

YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE STRUGGLING WITH THESE PROBLEMS...
Personally, I liked a lot getting an insight beside the trading itself, involving things like lifestyle, nutrition, exercise, wellbeing and discipline in anything you are doing in your life, because I also share these thoughts!I could not agree more! Also, it is a really good thing to read the real testimonies.Good Book. Thanks!

I learned a lot!
Lots of valuable information in this book. I recommend this book to new and experienced traders .My only suggestion would be to consolidate many of the individual testimonies that contain redundant information.

Thank you Andrew and Mike!!!
I just finished reading Mastering Trading Psychology and Trading In The Zone simultaneously, both wonderful books, but thank you Andrew and Mike for such a straight forward no nonsense book on the psychology of trading. Without question mastering the psychology of trading is the 90% of trading success, basically the Holy Grail of Trading. I also appreciate your kindness when referring and on occasion mentioning the late Mark Douglas's, Trading In The Zone. Great job, keep up the good work, and I'm not on the fence anymore about becoming a member of Bear Bulls Trading. :-)

Mastering Yourself
I am just learning about daydreaming by reading first. I tried a crypto, and gold options and made a lot of mistakes. Most of my mistakes are psychological. This book really helped me understand how to be a better trader. At present, I am in a self education mode. In 2024, I hope to join the group, the use of the simulator a few months before actually trading.

A decent book that could be 1/2 as long.
The book isn't bad. It covers many important concepts of trading psychology. However, at least 50% of this book is verbatim quotes from the students in Andrew Aziz's VIP trading group--LOTS of stories and anecdotes about what mistakes to avoid, etc. You could get the same experience by reading just about any subreddit or blog about trading psychology. I found myself skimming over large sections of the book because the stories felt very redundant. Aziz will write a few paragraphs about the dangers of averaging-down a trade, for instance, and then follow it with seven stories from his trading students about the dangers of averaging down. And these aren't summaries--these are verbatim quotes, copied from his trading group and pasted into his book. I hope his students are getting royalties.Multiple times in his book, Aziz mentions the late Mark Douglas, who wrote "Trading in the Zone" and "The Disciplined Trader." Both books are superior to this one--particularly "The Disciplined Trader."

The fundamentals matter
While there are several books out there on the psychology of trading Mastering Trading Psychology gives a more common and pragmatic approach by citing feedback from members of their trading club. One might say this is biased because the sampling pool comes from a group of people clearly interested in trading. While it is hard to dismiss the sampling bias, one can take a step back a look at the bigger picture and what Aziz and Baehr highlight are the fundamentals. This book is good for anyone who is interested in knowing more about how a day trader's mind is supposed to work and what some of the major mental pitfalls are.

Informativo para novatos
Algunas situaciones ha vivido como novato en trading. De alguna manera tenía claro que tomaba malas decisiones de vez en cuando sin querer admitirlo. Creo que esa lectura me pueda ayudar a mejorar y tener más éxito.

Maybe the worst book on the subject
The authors are not so experienced in psychology and trading as Jared Tandler and Brett Steenbarger. Maybe it is better for you to not read than read.
