This is NOT a soft bristle brush. If you have gum issues, you want softer than this unless you can learn to use this GENTLY meaning DO NOT grip the brush like you are about to clean the toilet with it. Get a soft grip and be gentle. It is extremely effective and I LOVE ionic toothbrushes as I have used them now for over 20 years. This particular brush, compared to the other manual brush marketed under Dr. Tung's, Hy-g, Kiss-you, in all various spellings, is much better ONLY because it produces more ions. This works with a 12v battery and it will light up as soon as you start to use it. Your finger HAS to be touching the metal plate to complete the connection and produce the ions. Other brushes (ALL that I have mentioned) use a 3.7v battery to produce the ions which does NOT compare to this brush as far as ions go. With other brushes though you can buy super soft bristles that you can't get here (ebay, fluorine ionic is super soft) I think this is a great brush and I will use it. I really wish it was softer though. If it was softer, I would give it 20 stars!

As another reviewer posted, the blue light doesn't go on unless you press the very small metal dot at the base of the brush head. And I mean PRESS HARD. That means you will be brushing your teeth with your finger in your mouth, which is impossible. Even then, the light is not consistently "on". I used Dr. Tungs for many, many years with excellent results and I am so disappointed that they are no longer on the market. As a plus, Amazon is taking the brush back even though this company clearly says "NO REFUNDS" on their website. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk from a company with no quality control that does not stand behind their products.

I bought the Hygenius toothbrush and I am real impressed with the results! My teeth and gums feel really cared for with every brushing session.

The hygenius is a quality toothbrush. Unlike, as was stated in certain other reviews, I wasn't in the least bothered by the bristles stiffness as this aided in giving my teeth a great, sudsy scrub. The blue light meant to indicate ionic descaling was in effect was initially a bit distracting but one adjusts. Cannot claim this aspect of the brush was of definite benefit, nor can I say it wasn't but my gums don't tolerate the electric brushes. Bought this brush to get a superior clean, and I believe I do now it's up to my hygienist to confirm or deny it when going for my next cleaning. This brush is pricey, but dental visits resulting in cavities cost more, so time will tell if the hygenius is a good value.

I am a little concerned that it does stay lite up for a few seconds after removing from my mouth but so far so very good. I have only used this twice and already it has removed some plaque that was just starting to show. Now you can barely see it. I imagine after a few more brushes I won’t see a thing. If all goes as planned with this toothbrush I will be singing it’s praises to everyone I know.
