Brilliant!
I feel i have to add something here as the negative reviews are all a bit harsh.. Especially since most of them are due to a few seconds being cut (who cares.. your putting people off a really great film!!). i mean 300 has gone on to become pretty iconic and for all it's sins has almost gained 'modern classic' status, certainly a cult classic! so why all the negative reviews for The Immortals? i don't get it.. this film has waaayyy more story, loads more scenes with variety, much better acting, it's full of thrills and great cgi! what else could you want from a film of this genre.. plus it's in a different league to that clash of the titans remake! To be honest the only reason i watched this is because of the super cheap price this has dropped to, otherwise i'd have totally missed out on this amazing film! Anybody looking at this really needs to click buy and check it out for yourself!!

Pretty good, even better in 3D
Like other Tarsem Singh films, immortals has rich and beautiful visuals, add to it some very well executed 3D and dramatic special effects from Tippet studios, and you get in my idea a very understated film. The cinematography and the acting are pretty good, the story while not very original is still interesting enough and the action is riveting. This is not 300, but it doesn't necessarily need to be compared to it even though it has been produced by the same studios.Henry Calvil makes a credible Theseus (you can see here what Zack Snider's next Superman is going to be made of), Mickey Rourke is an awesome baddy, and Freida Pinto is a match for the visuals of this film. Additionally I liked the small role played by John Hurt who is always such a brilliant actor.I see that some people rated the film badly because of cuts, in my idea Immortals is not that cult enough to be bothered with getting the "ultimate" version (which you probably struggle to get anyway). Get this in 3D, watch it on a big screen and I doubt that you will regret it, especially at the current price it is at the time I'm writing this review.

Theseus and the Titans
Greek myths have, down the years, been retold many times. Every time a myth gets retold it tends to be a little different than before. Thus here's a film that takes elements of them to craft an all new story centred around the original characters and ideas. Which may not please the purists.Theseus [Henry Cavill: Superman in waiting. Or rather, in production at the time of writing] is Theseus. Son of an outcast lady in his village and with no friends save a wise old man [John Hurt] who has acted as his mentor for years. He's growing into quite the warrior under his guidance.Which comes in handy when King Hyperion [Mickey Rourke], who has a huge army, cuts a swathe of destruction across the country on a quest for a weapon that can kill the gods. Because he's not very pleased with the latter. And another way to hurt them is to release things they would rather stayed locked away.Theseus is the one man strong enough to lead the fight against Hyperion. And he proceeds to do just that. Picking up a motely crew of allies along the way.Olympians and Titans and humans will clash. And the fate of the human race and the gods hangs in the balance. This comes from the producers of 300 [2007] [DVD ] as the box of the dvd is at great pains to remind you. Like that, it's mostly shot in studio with backdrops that were filled in later. And it also has the same colour schemes. And lots of people hitting each other with swords and other weapons.Unlike 300 though it doesn't have the same strength of feeling. Few of the characters really come to life enough to make you care desperately about what's going on. Henry Cavill does okay but doesn't get much to work with. John Hurt though is typically excellent in the wise old man who knows more than he lets on role. And Stephen Dorff does do quite well with the role of thief turned sidekick. His is the only character who really feels three dimensional. This does have an interesting take on the Greek gods, who are slightly different in appearance to any film versions gone before. And it does have some reasonably good action sequences. Some fine bits of spectacle. And some nice and memorable imagery. It also doesn't skimp on the gore and can be bloody at times. Those three hundred Spartans earned their own kind of immortality by their actions. Something that the movie version has helped along. But the warriors of this movie won't live quite as long in the mind. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages; English.Subtitles: English. The disc begins with several trailers, but you can skip them using the next button the dvd remote.Extras are:Eight deleted scenes. These can be watched all in a row or one at a time. None run longer than just over a minute. It's no myth: a feature about how Greek myths have influenced the world. It's quite interesting so it's a bit of a shame it's rather on the short side at a mere five minutes in length. The cinema trailer for the film.An alternate opening: this runs for eleven minutes and fills in Theseus's past history via showing a lot of his formative years. It is slightly better than the opening they went with. There are two alternate endings as well: One runs for eight minutes and might as well be in the deleted scenes instead because apart from a few extras moments in the middle it's the same as the ending they went with anyhow. The other runs for three minutes and has things happening pretty much the same as in the final version, just with some minor differences.

Underrated but VERY good
This movie had terrible reviews when it first came out, and we had consequently thought it a turkey. Its far from that, easily as good as 300, if a little dark (some scenes are hard to make out). Mickey Rourke is always hit or miss, but in this I think he suited the role. The actor who plays Zeus is FANTASTIC, loved every minute he was on screen, and for a non-A list movie, I couldn't think of anyone who wasn't ten times better than any of the "A" listers out there. In short, its a Great movie, would love to see the director and actors do a whole series of the Greek myths and legends. I would pay to see everyone.Give us MORE!

Gods and reviews
The gods do not care about reviews or opinions, and pursue their own wisdom and choices! Who cares about others opinion of a particular movie? I don't and can make-up my own mind thanks very much. If u're uncertain whether u're going to like it or not rather get a rental. Anyway, this is a well-made movie with excellent graphics and sound. While the genre is not original, the story and characters are reasonably fresh for the big screen. I personally also did not find the edited UK release off putting and would certainly not have noticed it if it was not for other reviewers input. Therefore, if u like Greek mythology flicks, get this blu-ray.

Immortals 3D
