The Animal Adventure Club are back in action! Isla, Buzz, Gracie and Lexi know pretty much every inch of the Pittendooey Nature Reserve, with one exception - Mungo’s Island, in the middle of the loch. So that means it’s time for a camping trip!They’ve got a mission from their ranger friend Lisa, too. She wants to reintroduce water voles to the reserve, and the island is the ideal place for them. But it’s not water voles that provide the drama (as you can guess from the title of the book!) but a drey of baby red squirrels. Unfortunately, it’s not just the squirrels that are in trouble when the mercurial Scottish weather turns - the gang lose their boat, their tent collapses, there’s no mobile phone signal... and where did they put that walkie-talkie that Lisa gave them? Oh no!Full of a wonderful depiction of friendship, packed with animal facts, and with a fantastically atmospheric description of Mungo’s Island with its folly, this is a delightful book that entertains as well as informs. There’s great section at the back with animal facts, too. And if you don’t squee a little bit at Hannah George’s pictures of water voles, there’s something wrong with you.However, there should be a content warning. THIS BOOK CONTAINS MIDGES. <shudder>
