Q: Sooo, would this work in a filtered tank? It says unfiltered habitats.

I somehow overlooked the part about needing to be in unfiltered tank until I opened the package. I decided to give it a try, anyway. It's been a horrible experience and I'm surprised my betta is still alive. The beads were sucked into the filter causing it to clogged which caused the water to be cloudy which is how I discovered the issue. The other is it caused slime on the decorations and live plants. I do have the heater set for a betta temperature of 78. Did the beads melt? I'm not blaming the manufacturer as I did not follow the directions. Just be careful before putting anything in the tank.

Q: Could leaving these beads in too long spike ammonia levels? I have an increase in nitrites and I have no idea where it's coming from.

When they get older it's non stop high ammonia levels :( beads kept the water cleaner here!

Q: Can you add these to an already cleaned tank with rocks at the bottom?

Yes that's what I have been doing with my fish tank.

Q: Do you still need to treat the water prior to use?

Yes you still need to use a water conditioner.
