J W Harris Company 10009 Stay-Brite 8 Solder 1/8 X 1Lb

STAY-BRITE "#8" is an EXCELLENT "Solder": 96% Tin 4% Silver ("Silver-Bearing"-- & Lead Free--). Stay-Brite "#8" IS NOT a Silver "Brazing" product, which typically have much higher "Working" Temperatures and handling requirements. At 430°F Solidus and 535°F Liquidus Temperatures, Stay-Brite #8 is easy to handle and has an excellent "Working" temp range, where much stronger tensile joints are needed as in some lower-pressure HVAC and other Plumbing Tradecrafts. Stay-Brite #8 specifications provide higher temps and is much stronger than most typical Lead-Bearing products, yet is not as high temp as most Silver-"Brazing" products, which makes this product very versatile, especially where a "mid-range" or an "in-between" product is required.

Stay-Brite8 Silver solder is the best soft solder for copper joint soldering

no leaks on my AC line so far after a few months.

I soldered my outside 4 ton unit in 2008 and it is still holding strong with no leaks as of 2015. I first sanded the copper with 80 grit sandpaper. I then applied Harris SCLF16 Stay Clean Soldering Flux to the copper. Using a regular brazing torch with blue bottle I soldered the fitting and this stuff flowed out smooth as glass. I recommend this for a/c repairs if you don't have access to a 2 bottled welding rig that requires costly brazing rods as well. It does require some basic soldering skills.
