YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
So, I am a relative newbie to the quality computer mice industry. I have owned a couple of "gems" over the past year or so including a gearhead wireless mouse from Wal-Mart. It worked great for about 2-3 months, but being a wireless mouse, I noticed that the tracking and sensitivity began to suffer. Being that I am a fan of World of Tanks MMO, I couldn't settle for such a lack of performance, so I jumped on my trusty old website friend, Amazon.com, to see what I could find. I would like to mention that I carried an Amazon Prime Membership for about a year in college, so I am a huge fan of the internet mogul and what they represent. This was all after trying an E-3lue Mazer Type-R from NuEgg.com as well that, quite simply, failed before I even pulled it out of the box. So, I jumped on Amazon.com and punched in computer mice to find more than 700,000 hits pahah, and after a quick narrowing of search results to reveal only Logitech devices, I was left with roughly 100 mice to consider. Now, I planned on spending roughly $40-$50 on a mouse with the hope that I'd finding something that'd last, and I am confident that the G400s I found, purchased, and have used for about 2 weeks now is just what I was looking for. The packaging alone screams quality and high attention to detail; however, with marketing expertise/business background, I know that with such a striking package display comes a significant cost as well. So, I'm not sure such was necessary and this could have saved me some money in the end. Flamboyant packaging aside, the mouse itself is what's important here. I bought it with 3 key features in mind:4000 DPI Delta Zero Optical Sensor, Long-life buttons rated to 20 million clicks, 8 programmable buttons. From what I can ascertain after just 2 weeks of use, is that Logitech delivered on their product and then some. The mouse is comfortable (like a glove), the tracking and DPI range is flawless (like a GEM), and the programmable buttons (and easily accessible software) are a great balance for the average person. Trust me when I say downloading the software from the website and configuring buttons, sensitivity settings, macros, polling rate and multiple profiles is simple, and efficient. (I set mine up with 3 differing user profiles in just 10 minutes). So, what is the overwhelming takeaway from it all? For under $50, I was able to acquire a mouse that's COMFORTABLE, CUSTOMIZABLE, and built to STRICT QUALITY STANDARDS. Time will tell if the buttons hold up to a behemoth size 20 million clicks, but first impressions speak volumes with people, and I am confident this mouse from Logitech will deliver on its promises!! Logitech G400s Optical Gaming Mouse P.S. It seems like this model may be a bit "dated" or past maturity in its "product life cycle", but I would strongly urge you to consider buying this for just that reason as you will get it for a great price as seemingly "newer" models with minimal improvements will phase this mouse out of the market. I.E. ~ GET IT WHILE IT'S HOT, BEFORE IT'S GONE!!!

So far, so good!
I bought this mouse a month ago as a replacement for a 2-year-old Razer DeathAdder that crapped out on me spectacularly. During this review, I'll mostly be comparing it to the DeathAdder since that's the mouse I bought this to replace. PROS + Feels extremely well constructed, MUCH more so than my old mouse. + External materials don't attract grime and sweat; I had to clean my old mouse off on an almost weekly basis, but haven't had to do so with the G400s. + Good weight balance. Has some heft without being excessive. + Tracks well on my SteelSeries mousepad. + On-the-fly sensitivity adjustment (or 2 extra button functions) is always nice. WASHES = Mousewheel. Objectively, it's very responsive and has a great grip...but I actually prefer mousewheels with more float that don't "lock" into certain positions. I can't really fault the mouse itself for this though, and I'm sure I can adjust. = Seems designed for smaller hands than mine. The DeathAdder's hand position felt naturally comfortable, but this has taken a little adjusting to. CONS - Small forward/back buttons compared to the DeathAdder, and at a slightly awkward position. - The cable, as so many others have said. It can't be compared to my old, braided cable for even a moment. - Mouse drivers seem excessively large. OVERALL: I've sworn by Razer for many years, but I'm very glad I changed to the G400s instead this time around. The complaints I have are minor and/or features I am still adjusting to, and I haven't run into any glaring defects worth docking a star over. This definitely feels and looks like a mouse which will last for 20 million clicks...and it'll be a lot of fun getting there!

10/10 would buy again
I love this mouse. It's a throwback to the very first gaming mouse I'd ever owned when I was 12, and it's a faithful reproduction with just the right amount of improvement. Some gaming mice on the market look as if they have been designed in a laboratory for non-human hands. They'll allow you to change the weight, shape, size - everything. To me, this is just another distraction to prevent you from being completely focused on the game, and I place more value in the consistency that a static configuration provides. The shape of this mouse is as close to perfect as it gets. It's not too ridiculous, but provides enough contour and comfort for accurate gameplay for hours on end. The weight of the mouse is great, and the button configuration is true to the original; the ability to change DPI on the fly is critical to my gaming and web browsing experience. It is coated with a material that provides a good amount of grip without giving the mouse a rubbery feel, and the feet slide very well over my aluminium mouse pad. Overall, I would highly recommend this reboot of a classic mouse to anyone that is serious about gaming. The other mice on the market seem a bit gimmicky when it comes to shapes, configurations, and personalization options. This is about as advanced as a mouse needs to be, with just the right amount of buttons, and a contour that fits your hand well but isn't overbearing.

Its usually user issues and not the product or Logitech ,, excellent product amigo, worthly of a ##1 rating.
Well, let's get to a point quickly. I have a Logitech MX518 that's been in used for nearly 4 years and at times it flashed on and off from active to dead---as in no connection,-- until I figured out that the setting were too high, too fast, for use as a plain vanilla web page mouse application. Seems that the mouse response time can be quite faster than an actual internet connection, especially when using public Wi-Fi system that lag or bogs down in processing speed. So I tuned the response feature down a bit, scrolling went from 8 lines per click down to 3 lines and the refresh Nano-seconds time stayed up with the mouse commands rather then go into suspension or freeze out.I figured out that this works just as well using the G400s. My laptop, equipped with an Intel processor, is very quick, the G400s also has a very accurate and quick response, but an actual internet/Wi-Fi lags a bit due to overloads, weak signal or weather conditions, point is the slow or lack of response often experienced is not a instrument (mouse) issue --as some folks like to downgrade this products genuine top quality response and accuracy.,,,,, I do like the MX518 finish better than the G400s, but both are super fine, durable and fancy color coated finishes as well as both just seem to truly fit my hand better than any others I have used, (smaller footprint),,, one disappoint is that the G400s has a "stiffer-wire/cable and much small diameter than the MX518 unit (which is thicker and does not get caught or stuck with movement against other equipment edges and corners --its also much more flexible). Having the correct software version from Logitech updates site tweaked out 98% of "no response, slow response issues,, don't rely on MS or Windows updates , it from the Logitech folks.

Worth It. (If you put function over form)
Bought this mouse primarily because I wanted to have a couple extra buttons available when playing computer games. I did my research, settled on the G400s and have been happy with it for 9 months running now. While it is marketed as an FPS gaming mouse, this is an easy recommend for anyone based on excellent ergonomics, customization and durability in particular. Pros: Durability - Buttons rated at 20 million clicks. At my present rate of use this mouse would last another 50+ years. There are no signs of mechanical wear whatsoever. The only hint that the mouse is used at this point is a slight bit of abrasion on the pearl-colored "G" logo on the mouse. Ergonomics - Deep thumb groove means mouse is secure in hand and easy to pick up. Fits natural curve of hand with good button placement and feel. Sensor Accuracy- one of the most accurate sensors on the market. This likely won't matter to you unless you happen to be a fairly hardcore gamer but is a nice bonus for any user. Software- The mouse is plug and play and the forward/backward buttons are usable out of the box, but the buttons near the scroll wheel need the Logitech software to be mapped. The Logitech software is slick, light, powerful and quick to install and use. Be it a game or Microsoft Excel, there is no reason productivity doesn't go up relative to a standard mouse. On the Fence: Styling- This is a souped-up premium office mouse with gaming innards and a new paint job. The styling will be hit or miss with most. The office types won't like the gaming paint job and the gamers won't like the fact there are no flashy LEDs. To both I say, "function over form." Cost- You can get all the office functions of this mouse for $30 if you need the buttons but not the "Zero Delta" sensor or 1000hz polling rate etc. As a gaming mouse, it is well-priced compared to its main competition. Textures- The mouse comes with "hydrophobic surfaces" which are durable and resist sweaty palms. They work as advertised and are very durable but many people don't care for the "all plastic" feel of the mouse. The mouse works and it works well. If you need a rubber or satin feel to your mouse, seek therapy immediately and spring for a different (likely inferior) mouse in the meantime. Cons: Lack of braided cord- this could/should be standard these days. Braided is better for looks, sounds (nobody wants a mouse cord that goes fwap fwap all day) and generally staying out of the way. Scroll Wheel- No issues personally, but the profile is admittedly low, it is simply a smooth rubber wheel with a little bit of cheap wiggle and it appears identical to what is on Logitech's $5-10 mice. For a $50 product, it seems rather out of place. That said, it works and this is a rather nit-picky con some wouldn't even notice were it not for the gripes of others. In summary: impressed overall, particularly with the durability aspect of this mouse. 9 months in and I am beginning to believe it will outlast the USB port concept...

Awesome mouse. It's like an MX 518, only better!
I've only had this mouse for about a month right now, but I've owned the precursor to it (The MX 518) for a few years now. I bought this mouse because I was looking to get a better mouse for my desktop, and found this one on sale so I got it and moved my old MX 518 (which is still going strong after at least four years) to my desktop and use this new G400s with my gaming laptop. The G400s is effectively just an upgraded MX 518 with a different skin on it. It is quite comfortable to use, seems to be quite durable, and has noticeably more smooth tracking than the MX 518 (just make sure to download the software for it and up the samples per second). I've been using this style mouse for years and still love it, so I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a decent mouse with few fancy frills but great performance. You can also get Logitech's configuration software for this mouse from their website. I only used it to tweak the mouse DPI settings and sampling rate, but you can rebind the mouse buttons and set different profiles for your mouse for use with different games if you're into that sort of thing.

Windows 10 Uprade = useless mouse
Update - Windows 10 - SetPoint software is beyond atrocious. I recently upgraded to windows 10. The SetPoint software was not able to recognize this WIRED mouse! The software installs, but there is no option to change any settings. Seriously, how can they release software that is such garbage! Supposedly, you can trick the software into working by getting a wireless logitech mouse and jumping through hoops. I have been a massive fan for years (decades), and this is the first time I would ever recommend people stay away from a logitech product. About a year ago I bought a Razer Deathadder mouse. Looked great, worked horribly. I finally couldn't stand how poorly the Razer mouse performed and decided to go back to Logitech. I regret ever having tried another mouse! The G400S works flawlessly. The control is precise and the software unobtrusive. It is a fantastic mouse that I would highly recommend.
