Every Catholic Home Should Have This
Of all the editions of the Baltimore Catechism available, I would strongly recommend this New St. Joseph version. It incorporates up-to-date information about the rules of the Church, where some of the other versions do not. The New St. Joseph First Communion Catechism, like the others in this series, does a good job distilling the faith into simple questions and answers. It also trims the material down to the most necessary, which is perfect for young children.I would caution against using this book as a stand alone preparation for sacraments, or even just as stand alone religious instruction. The questions and answers are only as good as the discussions that come out of them. Memorization has its place, and is very helpful when we need to call upon information later; but memorization without understanding misses the point. My recommendation would be take this book, and work on a small chunk at a time with your child, discussing each question and what it means. Give your child a chance to ask questions and show comprehension. If he asks a question you don't know the answer to (and they all eventually do!) don't be afraid to admit it. "You know what, honey? I am not sure about that. I'll have to find out and then let you know."One of the best things about this book, and the others in the series, is that as you teach your child, you will discover that you are learning and growing also. It really is a very good resource.

Tried and True! No Fluff!
My 7 year old daughter was requesting 1st. Confession and 1st. Communion for many weeks. As a Catholic convert myself I was concerned she was too young and not ready. She was persistent and asking almost every other day to be able to take the Blood and Body of Christ. I agreed to order her some materials and we would start helping her learn more about Confession and Holy Communion. I informed her that if she really wanted to do this that she would need to be the one to ask for her 'lessons' to prepare herself and that we would not force her. So many of the educational products/sources seemed for a lack of a better word, 'fluffy' and confusing as to the realities of what these sacraments really are. Then I found The New Saint Joseph First Communion Catechism which is not new at all. Originally printed in the 60's. I love it. Very simple and straight forward and not overwhelmed with a lot of fluffy instruction. My daughter loved it as well. We are so blessed that she wanted 1st Confession and 1st. Communion of her own chossing and earnestly requested it and eagerly prepared for it. She couldn't wait until Easter. Easter came early for us! We are so thankful!

Buy this for your children. The program at their church will be lacking
This version is faithful enough to the original so that I would still highly recommend it. It gets caught, somewhat, between the Novus Ordo and Tridentine Mass instruction but it is clear enough so that if your children attend either the ordinary or extraordinary rite, they should be just fine.

Great for first holy communion
My daughter love this book to prepare her for her first holy communion. It’s a must to teach young kids the faith. I ordered few as gift for Christmas.

Excellent Book
If your child or anyone for that matter, is looking to complete their first holy communion, this book is excellent. While it's written for a child, it gives you all the information you need to prepare to make a first confession and communion. I highly recommend- you will not be disappointed.

Highly Recommend
Very pleased with this catechism book for First Holy Communion. Age appropriate with beautiful pictures that help a child understand this wonderful sacrament. I bought this for my grandson and he loves the pictures and is able to understand each of the questions which are simply put. Don't get me wrong, there is no lack of catechism here! On the contrary! My daughter-n-law says it's exactly what she's been looking for to teach her children a solid foundation of the Catholic Faith. I used it for my children and they still believe in the true presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist- thanks be to God! I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking to understand this sacred mystery, especially for children and beginners.

Good book but need to look for extra info on the Internet.
Good small children's book. You need to look for extra info on the internet but it works... Would like it to include activities but again, you need extra material to complete the lessons.

Excellent resource to teach young children the faith.
Simple, colourful pictures and explanations to instruct those preparing for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion with the basics of their Catholic faith. A real delight to read and use.
