Different diffuser - Initial Experience Very Positive
We use several different essential oil (EO) diffusers within our household. They range from the kit diffusers included when buying oil packages from firms such as Young Living or doterra to generic / multi-branded units I've bought on Amazon. All of the aforementioned units work the same way, i.e. there is an inner chamber with the vibrating plate or disc (transducer) at the bottom in which you fill with water and put in your EOs that you want to diffuse. They all work fairly satisfactory, but the thing I noticed is that the smell or intensity of the EO seems to drop off with time. The vibrating plate or disc (transducer) does put out some heat while running that the water and EO must absorb, especially when running a diffuser in a constant 'on' mode for long periods of time. Part of me wondered if this heat was actually altering the nature of the EO itself, hence the change in smell perceived by my nose.So to the research room I went looking at videos and articles. I came across the Whisper diffuser and noted that the design is a bit unique. There is an main, inner chamber with the vibrating transducer that you fill with just water - no EO is put in this water. A separate plastic cup insert receives a separate fill of water and the EO which then 'floats' on top of the water in the main chamber. When the unit runs, the vibrations are transmitted through the main chamber water, through the thin and flexible cup bottom to the water/EO mix in the floating cup. A plastic chamber or mist cap goes on to secure things and the top cap with diffuser nozzle outlet goes on last.It was immediately noticable to me that the EO blend (doterra Onguard) I had been diffusing in all the other diffuser units smelled more fragrant and intense once the Whisper was running. I also noted that the smell seemed to stay more consistent and in a way more intense over the desired runtime. So for right now I'm extremely pleased. Other reviews have notes that the cups eventually wear out and require replacement but at about 2 months per cup with 6 included you'll be good for a solid year or more of diffusing. Now for the pros and cons.PROS - (1) Construction / product quality - this unit seems much less chintzy or cheap than other units I've purchased off Amazon. Everything fits together tightly and the fan that produces airflow is very quiet with no electro-mechanical or whining noise that seems to plague most of the other fans in generic-branded units I've bought off Amazon and elsewhere.. The onlysound I hear is the water gurgling or dripping when it is on. (2) Visually the unit is neutral in appearance and isn't designed around a multi-colored LED light show that I always end up turning off. There are lights you can turn on or off. (3) Mist plume volume is very good and the nozzle in the top cap can be easily rotated to direct the mist to any specific area you may be trying to target.CONS - (1) A slight con for me is the design of the runtime options. Not sure if it is due to the water capacity limits in either the cup or main chamber but the only constant runtime option is for 50 minutes. Another negative around operation timings is that for all the interval settings (i.e. a time period "on", then a time period "off"), the "on" time period is fixed at 15 seconds. I wish it was more like 20 or 30 seconds "on" before cycling off since at 15 seconds the product needs about 3 or 4 seconds to start producing the mist plume out of the nozzle. This basically leaves about 10 "solid" seconds in which EO is being diffused into the room or space you're treating. I'm going to experiment more with the settings available and see if the spec'd water fill amounts for both the inner chamber and cup are exhausted at the end of specific cycle choices. Perhaps if there is water left over in both areas I could be more aggressive and have it run more. (2) The light switch location at the bottom of the unit may be a bit inconvenient for anyone that actually wants to turn the lights on or off, especially when the unit is filled and running. A switch on the side or back would have made more sense to me. (3) The design of putting the timer logic into the power adapter cord is a bit hokey. You have a tiny brick with the LEDs and selection buttons that has about 4 to 6 inches of power cord between it and the power input plug on the back of the unit. I don't like to hang or put pulling force on connectors so I have the brick sitting next to the unit on the table. I didn't buy the unit to win any beauty or aesthetic contests but be aware of this for your placement of the unit.I will put a follow-up review once I've operated the unit for a month.

Kinda a let down.
I became interested in the health benefits of essential oils about a year ago and have tried a few other diffusers which were less expensive but didn't have a timer, therefore, the earlier diffusers tended to quit after 1-2 hours.. I had heard good things about this diffuser so eventhough I felt the price was rather high, I figured it would be worth it. Here is a breakdown on the Pro's & Con's:Positive:1) it is light and compact the the directions for use are very simple.2) The timer works great. You can set it for 50 minutes up to 9 hours which is very nice.3)It has a blue light which you can simply turn off if you chose.Cons:1)First and foremost, I can barely smell the fragrance of the essential oils unless I am right next to the diffuser, The directions say to add a few drops of essential oil in with the water. I do use doTERRA essential oils which seem to be of high quality compared to many other oils I have previously purchased. I've even tried adding as much as 10 drops hoping that this would improve the output fragrance but is was still only marginal. The main reason I puchased the product was so I could have it on my bed table and perhaps have a more peaceful night naturally. I'm really considering moving this diffuser to someway smaller like my bathroom. Maybe I can use energing oils while I'm getting ready for work, but, this isn't why I purchased this and paid this high price.2)They call this the "Whisper" but you can still hear it. Granted, it does sound like a faint bubbly stream but you can still hear it. The other diffusers also make this bubbly sound but they don't have "whisper" in the name.So as you can see, while there are things I don't like, the programability is a now. If this product was perhaps $20 cheaper I would probably give it 4 stars.

Wonderful diffuser
I've had this diffuser for 3.5 weeks and have been using it probably 20 hours a day, every day. I had done quite a bit of researching different diffusers before settling on this one, and I love it! The intermittent on/off cycles you can choose from come in handy. There are 6 settings to choose from: 50 minutes continuos run, 2 hours runtime (15 sec on/ 15 sec off), 3 hours run time (15 sec on/30 sec off), 5 hour run time (15s on/1 min off), 7 hr run time (15s on/1.5 min off), and 9 hr run time (15s on/2 minutes off). I choose depending on either thow strongly scented I want the room (and this varies with the essential oil) or how long I want the diffuser to run. I usually use the 7 or 9 hour setting overnight, diffusing Roman Chamomile in my bedroom and it is perfect! During the day, I usually use the 2 or 3 hour setting for about a 900 sq. ft area and it does a fine job.I had some issues with defective liner cups that came with the diffuser, but this was quickly taken care of by the seller. Those who own a Whisper or those who are planning to get one, will be happy to know the manufacturer has come out with new liner cups that are thicker than the original cups. They are still flexible on the bottom half, but supposedly much more durable...so far, so good!I followed the enclosed directions exactly, and have had no trouble with the machine not misting: the water in the base should just barely cover the lower water mark, 65 cc/ml tap water should go into the liner cup, and no more than 4-6 drops of essential oils should go into the liner cup. I use 4 drops. If there isn't as much most coming out, you might want to take the liner cup out, check the water levels are not too high, and then gently place it in the base, and fit the two covers on lightly. I think the cup is supposed to lightly "float" in the water, so it it is too heavy (overfilled) or pressed down, perhaps this might hinder the vibrations.I am hoping this diffuser lasts a long time, because it is wonderful. It seems like a simple enough design, and the fact that the oils do not get into the metal elements, but rather stay inside the liner cup, should make it longer lived than the average diffuser. I would recommend it!
