The Twelve Dancing Princesses

This book is short enough for preschoolers to sit through without distraction and the illustrations are truly beautiful and colorful.

I got this because my daughter is in a princess phase. She loves the pictures and I change the words and she doesn't notice. It's definitely not the modern day Disney depiction of princesses - the father promises any of his 12 daughters to whatever guy can solve a mystery for him, at the choice of the male. Obviously, the old school princess movies can give the same cringe vibes, but it felt weird to show her pictures of male strangers sleeping outside the girls' room to see where they go dancing at night. Again, she doesn't care or notice, but as she begins to read we will move on from this book
