Works as expected with Macbook Air monterey
I tried another brand which didn't work with my mac, this one worked as expected. finish and material quality is fine. When place it under mac with the outlets facing outwards, the device cable starts from right hand side but since it's long enough it easily connects to my ports on the left side. I use numerous usb ports and hdmi, but havent noticed any heating up.

Obtained a defective unit with no chance of refund
I connected my MacBook's charger (96W) to the PD port of this hub, as well as an HDMI cable connected to an external monitor, and whenever I'd connect this to my MacBook, it would cause the fan to make a loud noise for a second and then the laptop would shut down.I checked the Activity Monitor to check the Power Impact, and there's a large spike in energy before the shutdown.I tried connecting the hub again, but with the charger connected directly to my laptop instead of the PD port of the hub, and it still caused my laptop to shut down.Bare in mind, that the hub supports up to 100W charging, and is advertised to work for a MacBook.I've tested it with my friend's own Promate Baselink2-c hub, and though there was a spike in energy impact, it was slightly less than the one caused by my hub, and it did not cause a shutdown.I contacted the seller for a refund, because I didn't want the unit anymore, and they told me to contact Amazon Support. I contacted Amazon Support, and after going back and forth with them, they told the Seller to contact me, who asked me to contact Amazon Support (again) and have them arrange a courier to pick up the defective item.6 days later, the courier hasn't arrived, and I contacted the Seller, who told me to contact Amazon Support, who told me to contact the Seller. So in the end, I ended up canceling the refund, to spare myself the headache of going back and forth. Now I'm left with a defective item that I'll just throw away. You can try your luck and order this, and hope you don't get a defective unit, but I've learned my lesson, and will only get a dock if it has its own power supply unit instead of getting power from a laptop's port.
