OMGGGGGG this iron is such a game changer!!!! Out with the old and in with perfection!!Love it...and by the way, i have been ready the reviews about this iron and many are complaining about the smell.First follow the directions on the sheet. Once all set up, let it heat the 10 minutes as recommended continue with what the instructions say. NOTE: with the valve open the water will barely come down the tube and that is normal. ONLY when you press the red button on the iron will it pull.As for the smell, first it's like any electrical new appliance - remember the smell of the toaster when you first pressed down the lever without bread, just to break it in...well same thing BUT here is what you need to know there will always be this kinda lingering 'like entering the cleaners smell' and that is normal.I am presently taking high end couture and we use these AMAZING irons after hours and hours of use, it still has a little of the smell and that is okay, because the is a professional iron. Day in and day out of my courses i go to iron my pieces and it has that smell.I tested with the laser heat thermometer and my Rowenta 'high end' that only goes up to 275-285 degrees F. As for SP-527 goes up to 420F!! so WATCH OUT. Know that with a professional iron as this Sapporo ALWAYS, ALWAYS keep your iron in motion on what you are ironing. NOW this is so hot that it will scorch, burn or make the fabric shiny glazed which you do not want...SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO PUT THE SHOE ON and learn to adapt to that smell....read again. Just as a note that makes a difference when ironing, this iron weighs just shy of 5 lbs and my Rowenta with water (that helps the weight) wieghs 4.1lbs."THIS IS A TAILOR'S IRON/PROFESSIONAL and it is simply perfection!!!I SO HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE SAPPORO SP-527, yes it is a little pricey but this will be the last iron for the next 25 years if used for household. If for Tailor's i am sure it will easily get 15-20 yrs.

Excellent Sapporo Steam Iron Kit!
Excellent Sapporo Steam Iron Kit. This is my second purchase in 15 years. If you keep the water filter up to date (to prevent calcium buildup), this iron will last a very long time. Unfortunately, I did not follow this rule with my first Sapporo Iron. The steam pores got clogged up and it no longer generated enough steam. I passed this iron to a handyman who was able to take it apart and remove the calcium buildup. That iron is now like new after serving me for 15 years. It is an excellent product. I highly recommend it for professionals.

Definitely consider if you love sewing
Very happy with this iron. It is very capable of removing wrinkles and flattening seams with its adjustable heat settings, steam, and weight and shape of the iron. I have the heat setting at 4 and it is hot at 4. It took me a couple of days to get used it-not standing it up and putting it back on the plate. But I have found that the less usage of my wrist to be good. I sew ALOT. My last iron was expensive, and it didn't last me 3 years. But this iron is for someone who has a designated space for ironing as it is pretty stationary with it's water setup.
