Great quality mortar and pestle!
Great quality mortar and pestle for a great price. It’s just as good as the Vasconia and Imusa brand but cheaper. Just be sure to season it before you use it to smooth it out and to keep the grit from getting into your food. There is a good how to video on YouTube, just search for granite mortar and pestle conditioning. It takes some elbow grease but you only have to do it once and it’s good to go for life! Granite is non porous so you don’t have to worry about oils or anything else soaking into it.

Great overall but the pestle is too stubby for me.
I had been waiting to find a good sized mortar and pestle to try out the old Italian style of making pesto sauce. While it might have been a little less messy using something taller the rough stone interior was absolutely perfect for the job. The stubby little pestle isn't that bad, I just think it's not the best choice for this one recipe which takes about 20 minutes of grinding. But I'm really looking forward to using this again for guacamole and grinding up my tellicherry peppercorns for steak au poivre. It's a beautiful piece, very hefty but still easy to wash.If you have the room for it this is one kitchen tool you're going to want to have available.
