Excellent information
We got this book for my partner who is a Type 1 diabetic. He has struggled with maintaining his blood glucose for the entire 19 years I have known him, even with an insulin pump. After adopting the suggestions in this book, for the first time he has been able to maintain his BG levels between about 110 and 90 about 90 percent of the time (he also is using constant glucose monitoring). Changing your diet is a bit tricky at first but well worth it. He's excited to get his next A1C.

He practices what he preaches - the book content is GOLD to a T1D
Dr. Runyan has done an excellent job of walking through some basics and more in depth details/content on the Why & How to consider nutritional ketosis for us type-1 diabetics.Prior to reading the book i was low carb (compared to todays regular people standards), i was aiming for around 30-40 grams carbs per meal... i feared the word keto as i associated it with DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis), something every diabetic should be aware of & concerned about! The two are not the same whatsoever. Let me assure you, Dr Runyan puts common FAQ's and objections to rest. While on my 'low carb' diet (30-40g carb per meal), my last A1C was 5.7 mmol.I then stumbled upon the book, read it within 24h, followed the Macro ratio suggestions for calorie intake (Fat 75%, Protein 20%, Carbs 5%). Since switching to keto, my first A1C report (3 months in) came back at 4.9. I couldn't be happier and it's all thanks to the insight Dr. Runyan shares. Why i chose his book:he's a medical Dr.he's a type-1 diabetiche follows the advice in the book and shares a monthly report onlinehe's into Olympic lifting & long distance runninghis 'TIR' (time in range) is typically 75-85% for the month -- his system/advice works!I'm a type-1, athlete, now on keto... learning how to hit the gym safely (sugar rises), and do my long distance runs (safley). The insight in the book asks some excellent questions -- Why doesn't the medical system suggest that diabetics could aim for, and achieve, normal blood sugar levels?? Let me say its achievable!

The most important book any type 1 diabetic should read
I'm really glad this book exists. If you're type 1, taking insulin, then a keto diet is the single best thing that you can do to improve your life. Doctors should be immediately putting diabetics on this diet as soon as they're diagnosed. They're failing to do so, and failing much more in teaching almost the opposite. It's great that someone took the time to write up all of this and put it in a widely available book. At least those driven to improve their health can find it, even if doctors should be telling them and don't.
