This makes really cute weekend sandwiches (pictured is ham, Genoa salami and mild cheddar since it melts well and Dijon mustard). I read reviews about the handle and latch sturdiness. Since it takes 3 min for maximum toastiness, and 2 for regular toastiness, I just hold it closed with an oven mitt rather than use the latch and lock. I really wanted a cute pattern so I dont mind this mild inconvenience, though I do wish it was less fragile and the handle really should be manufactured sturdier for so many people to have the same weak point in their sandwich press. I live in the US and did not use any electrical converter. I also read the plates need gentle washing so I only use wet paper towels on it to not remove the delicate nonstick coating. I love this and appreciate the past reviews in terms of figuring out how to make this more delicate than it should be appliance last for a long time. If you don't mind doing these altered care instructions then you will enjoy this too. :) (If you won't do those then I would pass on this though.)

Ordered this item because, compared to all other sandwich makers, this had a good balance of being small/compact with a nice, clean vintage-look. I was able to use it right out of the box and with no transformer or converter of any kind, due to its North-American plug. I plugged it in and pre-warmed it for a minute and it seemed to work. The plates are easy to remove and clean. I washed mine by hand before using it for the first time, not sure if they are dishwasher safe as I have yet to try.In the 5 hours I've had it, I was able to make 2 grilled-cheese sandwiches using thick Texas bread. I had no difficulty clamping down the lid and locking it in place. It cooks evenly, no spillage from the sides of any kind, although I'd say 2 minutes in and the bread already looked cooked, so it gets hot fast! I was also able to put in a frozen Cavendish hashbrown - around 5 minutes one side, and then flipped it over for another 5 minutes. At the end of 8 to 10 minutes, I was eating a hot hashbrown. The crisp factor could be stronger if I had put it in for longer. This is a game changer for me because I make small meals for myself and I used to hate pulling out the pizza tray and covering it in aluminum foil only to pop 2 hashbrowns into the oven. I used to have to resort to cooking things in large batches and saving them for later, although I can see how a double-sandwich maker would have helped here with the hashbrown. Still, I'm quite happy with my single.I also like the old-school timer and the nice, satisfying ding it makes although I have noticed that there is no way to stop the timer as such. So if I dial it to 3 minutes and then decide I want the timer set on 2 minutes, the knob seems to show a fair amount of resistance if I try and move it backward from 3 to 2 so I didn't try and tamper with it further. So I'd say it's best to not over-estimate and instead to cook your food in small increments until you get a hang of it.I'm very eager to make myself breakfast now and be able to grill just about anything. I will try cooking an egg on it tomorrow and see how it goes. But so far, I am pleased that this is working well!

it's just when the pans installed on the machine, it's not very stable. if u press on it, the pan would shake and move. it makes me feel the quality not being very good compared to the price.

Love this machine. If there is something to complain, you can’t put much stuff in the sandwich otherwise it will explode (eggs cheese) and leave a mess.... and the sandwiches bread has too be of the right size, in order for the edge to be ‘closed’ .
