How many blocks you can make in 1020 tray??

I've used a number of 1020 trays for these 2x2x2 soil blocks before. You need to space the blocks out so there is an air gap between them. Otherwise, if the blocks are touching or very close to each other the roots can cross over between blocks creating a problem. With even spacing (of about 3/8" - 1/2") you can get 4 blocks to a row times 9 rows or a total of 36 blocks per tray.

Do you have to purchase the plastic seed pins separately? If so, what size? Or, does this come with everything needed to begin seeding?

The Mini 4 comes with 5/8" seed pins already inserted. You need nothing else to start making soil blocks and planting seeds.....until you want to start nesting soil blocks from the Micro 20 to the Mini 4. If you later purchase a Micro 20 with this in mind, you will need to purchase a set of square black Cubic Inserts so the Mini 4 soil blocks can receive the Micro 20 soil blocks.

Why is this costly I had seen them before this mess going on and they were avout 40.00

I agree with you that this is priced fairly. It is well made and will last a long time. I'm referring to the cost in comparison to the cheep potting tray setups. Compared to a $5 seed starting kit it's more but in the long run it's going to save you money. My point is that yes, your can do things for less but this product is a fantastic investment. I want to encourage people that may view the cost in comparison to the less expensive options to give it a try. I planted hundreds of seeds this season and love it!

Should you cover the seeds or let them sit in the hole uncovered?

It is best to follow the instructions on each seed packet as to depth of planting, and then cover the seeds.

Cool Seed Starting Blocks

I like to start seeds for my vegetable garden in the Winter, so they are ready to plant out in the Spring. Got tired of all the plastic pots and trays, so I thought I would give this a try. I love it. You have to plan ahead a bit to get the soil mixed just right, but once you do it's easy to make these soil blocks. I think the mix is about 50/50 ratio of water to seed starting soil, and you let it sit awhile until the water is soaked in pretty good. I put the blocks on a grid tray and they are ready for seeds. The cool thing, is when you are ready to plant outside, you just plant the whole block. Worked out well in my garden.

Works fantastic

This makes great soil blocks. I’m using this size to start pepper and tomato seedlings. Pack them nice and tight and it has the right size dimple for small seeds. I’m using these with tin roasting pans with clear lids to start my seeds.
