Mr. B Games Posthuman Survive/Evolve

Bought this for the promise of a solo game, and it looked interesting on YouTube. I don't do Kickstarter anymore, but was glad to see it for sale here. The rules aren't the best, but not bad. With rereading, and more plays, it gets clearer. I do like that there's a game board that tracks the points - which track the journey followed on the individual tiles that you actually explore. The game combines lots of nice elements, with a range of characters, enemies, and events. The mutant side of the game is more for multiplayer, and, like everything else about the game, is familiar, but different. I like the game, and my play group seems to enjoy puzzling it out. Though, the 30 minute play time seems a gross exaggeration: It's a tough game, but I suspect we're playing it wrong. Still, I recommend it if you want a post apocalyptic game without zombies.

Posthuman is a dungeon crawler set in a post apocalyptic world. You have to race against other players trying to reach the fortress, last stronghold of humanity. The game has a great combat system, and an amazing semi-cooperative events that can take place. Player begins on his starting tile, and then traverse the waste battling survivors and mutants. The tiles are either woods, farmland, city or special landscapes. The boards and tiles are a little on the cheap end. A few of the tiles tore when removing them from the tile sheet. This is the only real issue for pieces provided. The cards, and custom meeples are great. There are tons of weapon, enemy, items, and skill cards to make each play through unique. Combat is unique in that you will first shoot at the mutants, or insane humans, before getting into any close range combat. Some event cards, and items cards will allow players to negotiate bullets and food for moral or even healing favors. The game will be long for the first play through to learn all the little mechanics, but a few more playthroughs the game flows rather quickly. It has a single player mod which will allow any rule reader a chance to learn all about the game. The last great thing to speak about is this everyone for themselves race can turn into a one vs one vs all game. As players will soon obtain mutant scars that will mutate them into enemies that are working together to eliminate the normal humans. The mutating of the players is a mandatory after obtaining 5 scars but a player can choose to turn after only 3 scars. So makes everyone wary when people start accumulating scars. Posthuman is a fun apocalyptic journey through a harsh and dangerous land.

Let me start out by saying this game has potential to be super fun, but when we opened the sealed box we were missing 4 orange dice, which makes it pretty much unplayable. Until we get replacement dice from Mr. B Games I can't give the game better than a 2 star rating. Pretty upset we bought it and now have to wait longer.Update: got the dice pretty quick. We played this game so much when we got it. It's honestly been a while since we last payed and I just was reminded to update this. But I know it's a fun game and I really do think everyone should give it a try.

Waaaay too overpriced for what you get. Looks like a fun game but there are no miniatures, only a bunch of cards, dice, wooden "meeples" and small board. Maybe worth half the listed price. Miniatures are not necessary for a game to be good I'm just saying it is overpriced for the contents on the box.

There is a lot of content in this box. No miniatures needed. My only complaint is that once a player has turned mutant, I wish there was something more interesting for them to do but basically tank the game. Be prepared, this is a long game.
