Great product, but the one I got smells awful
I am not sure how to review this product. I wish I could give it 2.5 instead of a 3. The tent was packaged well. I had no issue removing it from the box. I found the instructions easy to follow, but the tent is so simple to put together that I only glanced at them. The structure was assembled in mere minutes and was up and ready to play in very quickly. It's very sturdy and can take a lot of abuse from kids rough-housing in/around it. The space inside is very roomy and there is easily enough room for 3-4 small children or 2 bigger kids. The teepee folds up very quickly and lays flat enough to tuck in the closet corner or slide under the bed when it needs to be put away. The reason for the downgrade in stars is for the extreme offensive odor of the fabric. The scent smells like rotting fish carcass.I have washed the teepee about 3 times (which it held up very very well in the wash and airdrying). I have doused in frebreeze, tried bleaching in one cycle, and airing it out outside. I cannot get the smell out. It is so strong that it actually permeates the room. I did manage to get the smell to fade some after many washings and hanging in the sun all day, but it is not gone. I don't know what it is inside this fabric but the smell is super gross. I am so torn because the product itself is fantastic and is built really well-- and easy to use. It just smells so dang bad I can't stand it. Even guests that come to my house ask what the smell is. Maybe I just hit a bad stroke of luck and got a teepee that wreaks of four flushes of H3ll.

No chemical smell. Easy set up. Higher quality than expected!
I purchased this teepee for my son's first birthday party and as his present. He LOVES it, and he'll be able to play with it for years to come.I saw a few reviewers mentioning a strong chemical smell. That really put me off, but I purchased this product anyways. As soon as it arrived, I put my nose right up to the material and took a good whiff. It smells like regular canvas to me. No strong dye or chemical smell at all on our teepee! There were easy-to-follow instructions included, but the set up is straightforward enough that it hardly requires directions. Put the wooden rod pieces together with the plastic connectors, slide the wood rods through the fabric pockets, tie the top together, and spread out the bottom ends. It's extremely easy one-time set up, easy to fold and store, and also very easy to disassemble for storage or washing the fabric. This teepee, particularly the fabric, was significantly higher quality than expected. It's thick canvas and all the stitching and seams appear well-made. Obviously this isn't meant for outdoor use, but after checking the weather forecast, I'd be completely comfortable letting my son camp outside under this teepee in years to come. The color and pattern are lovely also.Overall this teepee exceeded expectations and I feel it was worth the price, considering my kiddo will have years of use. It's an attractive and sturdy product. The main concern I had was the chemical smell that some reviewers reported, and that was completely unfounded in the teepee we received.

Outstanding Product.... Made my little girl's X-mas outstanding!!!
My 7-year-old daughter couldn't wait to open the large box hidden behind the tree Christmas morning, and she didn't know quite what to think when she got to the cardboard box with no pictures and just two words. She didn't know what a teepee was, so once she read play teepee... there was quite the quizzical look on her face as if we had somehow cheaped out or given her the equivalent of clothing. It was very amusing. I took her to my laptop and pulled up a picture of this beautiful turquoise teepee, and she was ecstatic! She does keep calling it her fort or tent, but she absolutely loves it. She has been sleeping in it since we put it together, and I would easily say it's her favorite gift in spite of the electronic gifts that she received as well. I would absolutely buy this again, and will be recommending it to everyone I know with kids.We can both fit in there snuggled up on one of those Big Joe beanbags that she received last year. It makes a very comfortable floor. There is nothing I would change about this purchase. The company was even amazingly quick to send an e-mail making sure that everything was as I expected with my purchase. I really appreciate a company that is willing to go above and beyond to make it right!I can't even think of a reason that you would/could regret this purchase. Your kids/grandkids/nieces/nephews will adore this gift and you! Great job KidKraft!!!

How to get rid of the awful smell
We bought this teepee for our 2 year old, and he has loved it from day one. We thought it was very cute in his room, and gave him a nice spot to have of his very own, but we could not stand the smell. We thought it might be due to the "flame retardant" treatment that is on the canvas, so we looked online for how to remove that. What worked for us - soaking in the bathtub for an hour or two with white vinegar (filled the tub with water just enough to cover the material, and added in about 2 cups of vinegar), then soaking in the bathtub for an hour or two with Dr. Bronner's castille soap (again, filled the tub to cover the teepee, and squirted in about 1/4 cup of soap). Tips online say that flame resistant coating will only be removed by soap, not detergent, so don't use your laundry detergent for this.It would have been great to not have to do this, but I'm happy to say there is NO smell now!

I have 6 teepees
I ordered 6 different teepees for a camping themed sleepover party. Having ordered most of what Amazon offers in the way of teepees, I can tell you that almost all of them are exactly the same. It looks like they all come from the same manufacturer with the exception of the large white teepee that has 5 poles instead of 4 and has a little more room inside and a canvas "floor". I gave this larger one to the birthday girl since it was biggest. The prices range widely and really, except for the white one, they're all the same teepee with different patterns.I had issues with two of the teepees. One came with a tear in it and had to be replaced. The blue one on this review developed an odd, fishy odor on the canvas after a few months. In reading other's reviews this seems to be a big problem with this one tent. For some reason I didn't notice the smell until a few months after purchase. It's STRONG. Tried everything to get rid of the smell, nothing worked. Started with Fabreeze and then went nuclear, washing it like four times with baking soda. It still smells, but it's like a 2 out of 10 now. Perhaps it's the dye? Unfortunately all the washing has faded the fabulous blue color. For this reason I would order a different tent and stay away from the blue.Anyway, very cute. As you can see, sleeping bags fit about halfway inside of them. The little girls love them. I keep them folded up under the sofa and they pull them out whenever there's a sleepover. Easy to collapse and build.
