The Big Fat Surprise: why butter, meat, and cheese belong in a healthy diet

Essential reading if you want to fix your health
In this book Nina Teicholz reveals how the Big Food and Big Pharma industries are in control and are making trillions of dollars by keeping us overweight and unhealthy. Teicholz explains that the dietary advice we receive from so called experts is wrong either through their deceit or their ignorance. You want to know why there is a catastrophic epidemic of physical, mental and neurological diseases? Then read this book. So, some personal notes and preferences... My eyesight is not great these days so I prefer the hardback version to the soft cover since the hardback has larger type. I have bought both editions. After being overweight all of my adult life. I recently discovered that the NHS dietitians who advised me to eat less and exercise more were wrong. I got that advice 15 years ago. The advice that they peddle today is the same and it still does not work. They blame us but we are the victims. I dutifully followed the recommended dietary guidelines for 45 years. As I say, I have learned that I was not to blame for my condition. Through my own research I fixed my hormonal dysfunction. I am now a normal healthy weight and I'm in a better place physically and mentally. If you are interested in fixing your health like I did you can find some great books on the subject of healthy nutrition. I like the work of Jason Fung, Robb Wolf, Jeff Volek et al., Tim Noakes and several others. In common with this book, "The Big Fat Surprise", they are essential reading.

A DANGEROUS BOOK
It has taken me a while to figure this out but I get my blood analysed every year. Howere, rather stupidly I never linked my diet with the results I was getting for cholesterol. I can now clearly track that when I was convinced of the benefits of a whole food plant based diet in 2016 after reading The China Study and other books my next cholesterol check was low. I then read this book by NIna and I was blown away by it. It was just what I wanted to read and all apparently backed by science. I went back to my meat, dairy and butter diet. My next cholesterol check was way up. Then after a while I started to go deeper into the science (I am lucky because I have the time to do this. Then it becomes very clear that my initial decision was the right one. The best diet is a whole food plant based diet. This is best for almost all diseases. Don't trust me - test it our for yourself. Now I am plant based again I have checked my bloods and the bad cholesterol is now really low. It works. This is a wonderful read but it is pedalling untruths, I am sad to say. Check it out for yourself.

Should have been called the Big Fat Lie
Great book. Teicholz has blown open the history, the politics, the hypocrisy and corporate greed that has caused populations around the world, particularly in the west, to be chronically ill and unhealthy by keeping them ignorant for decades of the damage the typical western diet is doing to their bodies. This book will wake you up to the lies. In particular, what is most revealing is the unfair demonization of SATURATED FAT when the more appropriate culprit is SUGAR. John Yudkin got it right, Ancel Keyes got it wrong - not exactly what the authorities want to tell us. They got it wrong in the 1970's and they have known that for a good few years now - but they won't openly admit it. Meanwhile lots of people struggle with Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes and all sorts of other chronic conditions, largely due to ignorance of the real demons in our diets. This book could change your life. It changed mine.

For anyone who has ever followed a calorie controlled diet & failed, this is worth reading.
This book details the origin of the low fat, high carbohydrate diet, and the lack of scientific evidence for the claims made. The author goes through every study, whilst scrutinising the way industry injected itself into the way decisions were made. It reads like a scientific detective story, because in many ways it is. The conclusions will shock most people still looking to the conventional "food pyramid" or "my plate" model of healthy human nutrition. A great read, and very powerful book.

This is a brilliant and amazing book
This is a brilliant and amazing book. I read it, and then I read it all over again. I relished it. It is extremely well researched, and asks a lot of questions. It will open your eyes, not just to how you eat, and how you shop, and how you view your health and your relationship with your doctor, but, also, if you've ever had the feeling that someone with influence has used more than just 'the facts' to get where they are, then this book will show you how its done by exposing all the omissions and the silences, the denial, and bias, rhetoric, and romance ...
