4.5/5 stars - a cute story
Targeted for the preschool or beginning reader, this story features one hungry anteater who wakes up hungry and just can't recall what he is supposed to eat.Anteater begins asking the critters he meets along the way what he should eat. One critter is rude to him, a tiger in a tree says that he thinks anteater looks pretty tasty and another suggests watermelon might be a good choice. When the anteater runs in to a anthill full of -- yes, ants, and asks the same question, what happens next is not what you'd suspect.Funny story with large print and just enough words on each page to tell a cute story and not frustrate a beginner reader. The illustrations were fun as well.

Do You Know What an Anteater Eats?
One day an anteater wakes up with a form of amnesia and has to ask, WHAT DOES AN ANTEATER EAT? He asks one animal after another if they know what anteaters eat. Some of the animals’ responses are humorous, some helpful, and some kind of frightening. Eventually, the anteater sees an anthill full of ants and, well, he figures something out. Overall, a very cute and humorous story. Intended for preschool children to those in about the 1st grade.

Not my cup of tea
To be fair, my son age 8 loved the book - no one else did. This book was part of my son's suggested alphabet reading. It was not available at the local library or throughout the county library system, so we bought it on amazon. The book was not worth buying. It was supposed to be funny, but just did not make me laugh. In fact, a few pages were disturbing - A snake having swallowed multiple animals... which kids could imagine were their pets. A jaguar that looks like its going to eat the main character. A sloth that could not be bothered to answer the anteater. I guess you could use the book to teach about how easily it can be to come to wrong conclusions... and how we need to make sure we make sure we make accurate conclusions... that is a really good conversation to have actually. But overall, it was not a good buy for us - better to have library borrowed. If you are looking for a letter A book to buy, we prefer The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall.

A terrifying page
I have two other books from this author and love reading them to my 4-year-old son. But this one starts out great until you get to the page with the gigantic terrifying snake. I wish children's authors would avoid using such a character.
