A tiny bit goes a loooong way!
As a novice to refinishing wood, I had no idea what I was getting into. This was a pleasant surprise of ease and use. (1) Polymerized linseed oil with bees wax will darken your finish and add depth. So it will look "wet". Picture on left is after one layer of application, the right was before. I weathered stain raw pine and sanded.(2) it's very smooth and soft to touch, with 24 hour cure time (3) I was very worried about it handling up to 3/5 year old spills and playdough but so far so good. - were only on day 5. They claim this finish is water repellant, so far it is. They also claim it's easier to fix imperfections over traditional Polyurethane blends, just clean, reapply and buff. I haven't tested this out yet but I sure I will. (4) Because of bees wax in the Polymerized linseed oil, no other sealant or paint can be applied unless you strip tried and true Traditional finish, which i read is kinda hard for this finish. I didn't know this before applying it to table... I wish I had read this.

One of the finest wood finishes I've ever used
First off, I rarely write reviews for products - unless it knocks my socks off, or is utterly horrid. For this project I needed a wood finish that was FDA certified Food Safe, as well as something that would show off the beauty of the wood. I could not be happier with the results. I made these display boxes 4 months ago. They are in a refrigerated case during store hours and are then wiped down with a damp rag for overnight storage at room temperature. I am amazed at the durability of the finish. I put two coats on the first couple of boxes I made and quickly realized it was overkill. Granted, oak is very hard wood and doesn't absorb the product as much as a softer wood might, so there will be variations in application. Regardless, this stuff is lovely. Easy to use, non-toxic, functional, and I love that the recipe is from the 19th century. I highly recommend it - even in non food contact circumstances.

high-quality oil
Food-safe drying oil. The linseed oil sold at the depot contains heavy metal (cobalt) catalyst driers - not the best thing in the kitchen. This product is thick and, because it is authentic heat-treated oil, smells wonderful in comparison to the depot brand.Do not be fooled by all the other oil finish products sold at the big box stores - they _all_ contain a large percentage of solvent. You are buying a lot of very expensive naptha.Buy this! A can goes a very long way.

I'm impressed. A very silky natural finish for wood
I'd not used this product before. Always used polyurethane but liked the concept. I tried it based on a recommendation and found the finish is very much to my liking. It requires a bit more effort than PU as it really does require multiple coats to perform at its best. It doesn't seal the wood as completely as Polyurethane or other 'curing' finishes so it would not surprise me if periodic resealing may be required to keep the wood at its best. But the Tried & True Original imparts a silky smooth feel to the wood, especially after several coats that are applied and then hit with 0000 steel wool. So it appears to be a much more durable sealing coat than simple oiling of wood. And because it's already polymerized it's not undergoing a lot of further change on the wood. It is all FDA approved materials so can be used for food prep and generally protecting wood from drying out, warping, etc. A real keeper (and a little bit goes a long way)

Works better then I expected!
I bought this product for a unfinished wood island in my kitchen. It was easy to apply and does a great job protecting and my wood. The wax absorbed quickly deep into the wood crevices and any fluids that get on it will bead up. It’s very easy to keep the top clean. If you purchase this product be sure to purchase the linseed oil without the beeswax also. You will need it for maintenance and treatments. After the original beeswax application it will not absorb any more wax for quite awhile, if ever. I am very satisfied with this purchase.
