Q: Are these oven proof?

Depends on the composition of and firing process used...bone china and earthenware are not normally oven safe. Porcelain, made of kaolin clay, and stoneware are typically oven safe. Porcelain and stoneware ceramics may be oven-safe, however you must also consider the glazes used during the finishing of the bowl. Claims to be "high quality ceramic stoneware"...should be good for oven. However, ovenproof dinnerware pieces have notations such as "oven safe" or pictures of ovens on the bottom.

Q: Can these be used on gas stove tops?

NOT RECOMMRNDED!!! Read the description and it says OVEN PROOF TO 350° RECOMMENDED. (Not stove top). I have put them in a toaster oven at 375° for about 1 hour. AND I occasionally put them in the oven at 450° for 10 minutes after cooking at 350° for 30 minutes and all is good. The thing is you never want to go from cool to hot fast because it will crack and fall apart due to rapid contracting and expansion. READ THE DISCRIPTIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS ALWAYS. These are baking bowls not corningware stove top dish's.
