Much appreciated and very atmospheric
I bought this book for a friend who was brought up in Istanbul and they are delighted with it. The book captures the essence of Istanbul in terms of architecture, scenery, people and atmosphere. It was the latter quality of being so atmospheric that my friend praised about this book - the photography is complemented by Orhan Pamuk's foreword which really sets the scene. I was told this book which runs to just under 200 pages is an essential keepsake for anyone with connections to Istanbul. Recommended.

An informal view of Istanbul life by a photographer able to convey the life and soul of his subject.
For those smitten by this city this is a compilation of atmospheric and inspiring mainly black and white photos of a changing Istanbul during the late 50's and 60's

wonder atmospheric
As someone who has been to modern Istanbul several times these pictures invoke so many emotions. The range and style of pictures are fantastic and its one of the best portraits of a city I have come across.

Visual poetry
A visual poetry from Istanbul’s most exclusive and probably the most famous photographer and novelist Orhan Pamuk.

A book worth having
This is a lovely book, one of the best I've purchased in photography this year. Orhan Pamuk provided an introduction that is beautifully written and strongly informative of the mood, sometimes melancholic, that pervades Ara Güler's photographs of Istanbul. This is a worth addition to any library and strongly recommended.
