An Unexpected Experience
I ordered this book on a lark after watching the recent Anna Nichole Smith documentary on Netflix. It was at a bargain price and I thought I'd give it a shot and perhaps skim through it.I was pleasantly surprised with this book, and wound up reading the entire thing. Dr. Kapoor is an interesting writer with a sharp sense of humor. His story of his encounters treating his celebrity patient, and how a couple of careless decisions almost ruined his career, is a fascinating study of our country's obsession with celebrity, as well as a peek behind the curtains of Ms. Smith's sad end. There's also a lesson here for professionals, and how one mistake in public can be very unforgiving when the lawyers decide to come for you.A good read. A pleasant surprise.

Dangerous Associations
I stumbled across this book and, as I was really sad when Anna Nicole died, I decided to read it so as to learn what really happened. In the end, I got pulled in to Dr. Kapoor's story. It turns out it can be dangerous to be associated with a celebrity. Dr. Kapoor had always kept a personal diary -- and one day after Smith, his patient, had died, the law came charging in his house with a search warrant and confiscated this diary, among other papers. It turned out he, along with her lawyer boyfriend and psychiatrist, was being accused of causing her death. It's interesting to read his perspective on what it's like to be dragged through a sensational trial and used as a media pawn by the likes of TMZ. In the end, not only did I learn about Anna Nicole and her poor son Daniel, but I was cheering as Dr. Kapoor was finally acquitted and could continue his life.

Injustice Served, Trust Earned
If you're expecting to read about a lot of excuses and denial, you're going to be disappointed. Dr. Kapooor makes no excuse for behaviors he regrets in getting caught up in the Hollywood scene. It is clear from the beginning that he never mismanaged Anna Nicole's medications and the anguish he and his family endured in order to prove this is heartbreaking and outrageous. The book is interspersed with side comments and very humorous observations. The descriptions of his love for his twins and parents and appreciation of his staff and defense team ring true and sincere. The legal drama and the journey Dr. Kapoor narrates is simply amazing. This is a man who deserves respect and admiration for baring his soul in this book. He mentions that a photo of an elderly lady he cared for is the focal point in his waiting room. Many doctors in this area have corridors lined with photos of the rich and famous. While it's entertaining, I'd rather be cared for by the doctor demonstrating compassion and caring. Worth the read!

At first, I thought writing a book about this ...
At first, I thought writing a book about this was maybe a bit too opportunistic. Then I read the book and decided a) this man deserves anything positive that can come from this experience - the brutality he, his family and his patients were put through by the state of CA and the media and b) what's so wrong with being opportunistic anyway - as long as you're speaking the truth. Bravo Dr. Kapoor! I laughed and cried and celebrated your victory.
