The Coutale Sommelier corkscrews are designed by Philippe Bernède, French winemaker, vintner and owner of Clos La Coutale. Over the years he became increasingly frustrated by the poor quality of the corkscrews that crossed his path. After a day of struggling to open his wine at a tasting he set out to create his own! Et voila! The first Coutale corkscrew was born! Coutale Sommelier is now a complete line of corkscrews. The French patented spring-loaded double lever adds ease, control and power to your uncorking experience. Coutale Sommelier is the ONLY spring-loaded double lever corkscrew.

Great size! Great to use! Cool design
Love the knife and worm. The hinge is a tad low and so the second pull can be tricky. Still way cooler than the average Pulltap or knockoff waiters corkscrew.

Defective worm
I've been using Coutale wine openers for years and I like the brand, however, the "Pocket" I received recently has a defective worm - the point is out of alignment with the rest of the worm. It makes inserting into the cork more difficult and the cork is prone to breakage during removal. Hopefully the replacement will not have the same issue.Update: I got a replacement from Amazon and it had the same issue. I will not be keeping either.

Terrible Wine Opener
This is by far the WORST opener. Hard stop. There’s nothing good about it. It slips off the lip of almost every French and domestic wine bottle; you twist the worm into the cork, and the bottle lever slips off the lip of the bottle, try again and it continues to slip off the lip of the bottle. I fight it until eventually I get the cork out but am cursing it throughout the process. It’s so bad it’s, one day, going to chip the lip of bottle It’s just awful! I’m so disappointed.

Weathered condition received
We have not had the opportunity to use this yet, but had purchased to replace our older big store opener. Was extremely disappointed with the condition when it arrived. Severely weathered and will required heavy cleaning and oiling to bring up to par. Chose not to return as these are easily remedied and not worth the hassle, but be cautious if considering.

Terrific wine key option for industry veterans...
Solid double-lever wine key with a teflon-coated worm to make it easier to get into dry corks. This may be as good as it gets for most somms, considering the price. My one improvement would center around the stability and shape of the foil cutter, and the ability to over-rotate the double-lever... these are both due to the single-rivet hinge design. (This is a minor concern, and it's likely difficult to design a mechanism that would overcome this issue.)
