Q: I wear medium shirts but large jackets should I get a standard size?

Sorry, I bought this a LONG time ago for my teenage grandson. I have no idea what size I bought, but it was good quality & worked out well.

Q: Would xl size fit like a 3xl or 4x? Also what kind of material is the sweater?

No, it definitely wouldn't fit a 3x or 4x. I purchased for my son, who is 5'9" 160 ish pounds-your typical size medium man, I would guess. He's kind of slim and it fit him like a large. I can't remember now (we purchased a year or longer ago), but I think it's just a typical cotton sweater. I hope that helps!
