Great yarn
I really do get one shawl per ball. I use my own pattern. I make about 30 to 40 prayer shawls per year. My church gives them away. It's nice to find different colors.

Interesting Yarn with Beautiful long strips of color
I was really interested in trying Lion Brand's new yarn, Shawl in a Ball. This yarn is supposed to provide enough yarn to make a shawl. While that may be true for knitting, for crocheting, it fell a little short. That is not unusual as it takes more yarn to complete a like-size shawl in crochet than in knit.I was initially interested in this yarn to make something for my elder daughter, who is allergic to wool. The color changes in this yarn resemble those of more expensive yarns which include wool so I thought it could work well. The yarn is listed as worsted weight 4. It actually changes repeatedly from anywhere from a 2 to a 4 depending on how much acrylic yarn is on the carrying thread. The carrying thread is made of white, crimped looking cotton and the acrylic is wrapped around it. The acrylic is the part of the yarn that changes in color throughout. The yarn is made of 58% cotton, 39% acrylic, and 3% other. I have no idea what the third fiber is made of.As with all new yarns I try, I make a scarf using half-double crochet to get a feel for how the yarn will work. For the scarf I made with this yarn, I chained 200 with 2 more chains for turning. I half double crochet into each chain with 2 more chains for turning and repeat until I ran out of yarn. I used a J/10 hook (6mm) as recommended on the skein. It made a scarf that is approximately 86 x 11 inches. The feel of the yarn in hand as I was crocheting was not unpleasant. I could tell that there was cotton due to slight lack of give but the acrylic softened that feeling down considerably. While there was a slight roughness, I would not consider it scratchy. I've now used two skeins without coming across a knot in the fiber. The fabric is very loose and the scarf is thin but that is exactly what I was hoping for. I made it long enough for my tall daughter (6'2”) daughter to wrap around the neck or to tie in the front. It scrunches down nicely around the neck.I was so pleased with the results, I made another scarf with a different colorway. I now plan to make at least one of each colorway (two if both daughters want similar scarves.) If I was going to crochet a shawl, I would personally want two skeins so it would be a good size shawl instead of a tiny one.I'll include pictures of the scarves I have made and will update with other colorways in the future.

Product image deceiving
Product image makes it appear that this yarn is mostly the mauve. The one I received was gray on the outside and middle of skein with a middle section of what appears in product photo. Nice yarn though. Was just hoping for that color throughout.

Nice yarn to work with. Go elsewhere for a decent price!!!!
Nice yarn, but Amazon prices on this are awful! Double price of other sources, so think about it. The color changes are for the most part very gradual. I did get a knotted in abrupt change, so am saving that portion of the yarn to add onto a similar color portion. The yarn is soft and very easy to work up in a stockinette stitch.

Not true to color
The color was not like the pic...it is more gray than purple

I really like this yarn so much
I really like this yarn so much. It has an interesting texture (I don't understand what the negative reviews are about--it clearly states it has nubs) and works up well. I would suggest two balls for knitting projects for a large wrap. I'm buying another and plan on making many more shawls from this. It reminds me of higher end yarns like those from Habu... like a knock-off in a way.

Absolutely terrible
This yarn is the WORST. It tangles terribly. It is NOT a worsted weight yarn, more like fingering with some blobby bits. I started crocheting a shawl and realized I'd messed it up, so I tried to wind it into a cake and it got so badly tangled we gave up and threw everything in the trash. Never again. And I've been crafting for a long time and have used many, many different kinds of yarn, and dealt with my share of tangles and knots.

Be wary of colour.
Not knitted yet but think it will be fine, very disappointed in colour, says mauve but looks shades of beige/brown. Could have printed pattern on the ball band but you have to go online to get it,hope it's free, haven't looked yet.
