Best handheld light
Like most things Makita makes, they are well thought out, Not gimmicky, and quality materials. That's why so many (like myself) love their products. This light is no exception. I had an earlier model (DML802), but the lumen count just wasn't what needed- I needed more. This guy checks all the boxes, and fyi don't just become entranced in the Lumen numbers. More no equal better. The quality of light (whiteness) is fantastic. I use the 180 deg portion this most in electrical outlets, detailed finish work (wood) etc... The flashlight end is equally great in spotting missed paint portions, overspray, etc.. One of best lights I've bought in long time for handheld or working in smaller spaces. When this one goes bad (hopefully never), buy an exact replacement. Bravo Makita for Quality #1 in this light manufacturing.

Very Bright Light - Great Functionality - High Quality
As I am "married" to the Makita 18v system, I was looking for an area light to use with my many batteries. I chose this model and have no regrets. It is exactly what I expected. My wife and I were recently trying to finish wiring under a deck and installing outdoor lights. We ran out of daylight and relied on this light to complete the work. The built-in hanger was perfect. We were able to hang it from various places as we moved around doing our work.I would say that it is really overpriced. But it seems that everything Makita is overpriced. But the quality is high - functionality is great. If I had to find an issue, I might say that it is TOO bright. Maybe not for most people but borderline for me. But the simple solution for us was to locate the light further away.

Trusty old friend
I've been using this for about 5 years, just thought it was time to let everyone know how great it is. Typical rugged makita quality, will probably outlive me. The flashlight feature is a little weak, but that's just a bonus feature in my mind. It really shines as a lantern, for illuminating a room. It would be great for camping or emergency situations. These days I mostly use it when I'm sanding drywall, I hold the light up to where I'm sanding. I also love it for when I'm working in a kitchen sink base cabinet, looking in the back of my truck at night, or up in an attic. A 5 amp battery lasts all day and then some I think

Great design, holds up under abuse.
There are times I could use a fancier design, but simplicity is good, too.- the three light modes come in handy- hook design is fantastic - love that it securely stores out-of-the-way.- USB charging port can be a lifesaver- great for camping/fishing/etc- durability is crazy - I have left this outside for several days, partially melted the diffuser/lens, stepped on it and popped the hook off - still works great, has not been compromised, simply unscrewed the hook mount and reattached the hook.

Badly designed switch will fail with daily use
It would have been a good light if the switch system worked well, but it doesn't and will fail every repair. It's also impossible to find the part needed to fix it now, the switch and main board seems to have been discontinued. Okay to use as an occasional emergency light but no good for daily use. The internal 4-way switch on the PCB board is too small, complicated, and fragile. It rotates every time it's pressed: so light 1, 2, 3, and then off, but the small plastic teeth become damaged by use and by conductive heating generated by the tiny contact points. You have to press the switch 4 times with every use. Bad design.

Very happy
Very happy with the amount of light this LED lantern puts off.

A great light with one intermittent annoyance
This is a great light. Or lights as the case is. A 360 degree LED flood providing 610 lumens, a 180 degree flood of 300 lumens, and a flashlight with 150 lumens (up from 90 lumens of the DML806).Compared to the DML185 Xenon Flashlight, this thing is amazing. When crawling in the attic, I had to be careful how to place the Xenon in case it fell over into the cellulose insulation leaving me in the dark. With 360 degrees of LED lighting, no such problem. I do feel it is not as durable as the Xenon though, the white tube doesn't leave me thinking it'll survive to many knocks so I'm a bit more careful with it.Additionally, compared to the DML806, it has a USB port for charging devices. This made it pretty handy on my last car camping trip. The other change from the DML806 is the button. Depressing the button cycles through the three modes. From Off, to 360 flood, to 180 flood, to flashlight, to Off. The issue with the button is its sensitivity - when any of the light modes are on, the slightest press of the button (just enough to push it in a bit, but not so much that it clicks to change to the next setting) drops you into pitch black. Releasing the pressure on the switch allows the light to come back on (in the same mode). This only happens occasionally to me but often enough to dock it one star. It seems to be just in certain carrying positions that it happens and is something that could have been solved b y better placement of the button.Overall though, I am very happy with this light and would recommend it to others.

Perfect!
This is an amazingly versatile tool. Great for working in tight areas. Love the USP charger, we take this camping, and its great for the tent and for keeping phones charged.
