Much better then spending $300 -$400 on the American Girl Doll bed as it serves the same purpose. Daughter loved it!

This was purchased for one of my daughters 2017 Christmas presents. Because our family is on a tight budget we tend to purchase gifts a couple months early to ensure we don't go broke over the holiday season. I add that into this review because items that need to be built tend to be constructed the week of Christmas before the kids are out of school and can be hidden. When I opened the box I placed everything out on the floor to assemble and noticed right away that the four posts that attach to the head and foot boards of the bed had snapped free. These had been glued with wooden dowels and actually ripped free of the MDF and absolutely destroyed 3 out of the four head/foot boards. The wood glue on the ladder had also broke free meaning that the ladder was falling apart. After a quick trip to our local boxstore I was able to match the MDF thickness and start replacing the damaged parts. After 4 hours of cutting, sanding, and using my Dremel to make replacements I was able to reconstruct the bunk bed! Luckily I'm handy with wood and tools to an extent; however, this is NOT an item I would recommend to other customers. Had I not been able to fix the damage myself our six year old would have had a very disappointing Christmas. Next time I'll just make my own! This looked super cute and had good reviews, but I think the product is hit or miss. The bed rails are not wood - they are made of glued sawdust (kind of like sturdy cardboard) that deteriorated as we screwed the bed together. The wooden dowels that are meant for support are inadequate for the application (the ones that came with my purchase only stuck out about 1 millimeter past the end of the bed rail). For those who managed to get the screws to stay in place (or used heavier duty hardware), I highly suspect that the bed will fall apart with regular child use, unless you use a lot of glue to permanently connect pieces. We are returning this product and buying proper wooden doll furniture to avoid that situation.
