Well worth it!
Since I did not start reading comics well after Image was established, I've always been interested in the events that led to the creation of this company and why it got a bad reputation amongst some comics fans. This book answered all my questions and much more! The interviews with the founders are well conducted and very informative. Every founder (except for Rob Liefeld), recalls Image's beginnings and its first few years without missing any detail. You can feel the excitement that was going on in the industry while these guys started doing their own thing and selling millions of comics. Every important event is touched upon, from Liefeld's exit to the Walking Dead creation and everything in between.Strangely, my favorite parts of the book were the interviews with the second and third waves creators like J. Scott Campbell, Brian Bendis and Robert Kirkman. These guys all witnessed Image's birth from a fan perspective and their respective opinions on the publisher's first few years are very interesting.Overall, The Road To Independence is a must read for any Image Comics fan or anyone like me who's wondering what all the fuss is about regarding this publisher's history.

I had no idea.
I was drawn to this book on the shelf of a local shop because of the fact that the events of this book a happened when I was I junior high school. I remember the split of the artists away from marvel but never knew why. This book goes Into deep detail with pictures and interviews from the exact people. Though things are very different today for independent media, this book is exciting because it represents the genesis of the idea to the mainstream world.

A nice look back
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is full of interviews to many different players of the Image movement that give different perspectives on the subject. The only thing I miss is an interview to Rob Liefeld, and even more knowing that he was one of the main forces behind the creation of Image.
