Intriguing and Factual on one of the most rare breeds
I have known of the Caucasian Mountain Shepherd since childhood, as we had family in the Greek Foreign Ministry, stationed there. The book lays out such poignant accuracies, facts, and relishes you with an extremely thorough and accurate background of these amazing animals! To us, they may be a dog, but to generations before that, they were a reliable and highly cared for working breed. Stacy reports on facts, and writes in such an accurate and telling way, that it is difficult to place down. Nowhere else will you get such full and complete details on what is affectionately called an Caucasian Ovcharka.(Of which, I’ve been a proud owner of several of these breed dogs, so I have experience to go on too!)

The best book available for this breed
I am a student veterinary nurse with an interest in the Caucasian Shepherd breed. Before I committed to buying a puppy, I wanted to conduct as much research as possible. This book has been extremely helpful, with detailed information about the breed's history, physical characteristics and tips for training and selecting a puppy.

A Wonderful Starting Point for Breed Knowledge
While most of this series of books is devoted to basic dog care, this one got it right when they took the "breed specific" section from the pen of Stacey Kubyn. In the space provided, she manages to find and explore the right facets of the breed that will satisfy curious dog hobbyists and get serious potential owners started on a learning journey that never ends. The CMD is not a dog that can be explained in a few chapters, I wouldn't hold the book up against that effort. It also isn't a history book. The roots of the dog are a hotly argued topic of debate and there are more claimants than Russia and Georgia - Get in to the breed and you have ample opportunity to further explore and form your own opinion. When I get a new groomer, vet, etc., I always give them a copy of this book and they are thrilled to have this much background. For years after, when one of my dogs does something "particular to the breed" the vet will excitedly start laughing "That's what the book meant!". No quibbling. If you're serious, or even just seriously curious, this book is required reading.
