Great starter watch. Recommended.
Bought this as my first dip into smart watches. So 'WELCOME TO THE 21ST CENTURY BUCK ROGERS'I didn't want to spend a fortune on a smart watch but I also needed specific things.Firstly I want to read texts, see who's calling me. This watch does this perfectly. I walk round London and this is invaluable to me as i dont need to get my phone out to see who text. Therefore i dont put myself on offer to thieves.I wanted good battery life. This watch seems to last forever. For how I use it. The battery is excellent. Over 12 days easily on a chargeI don't do social media so I couldn't tell you if my life depending on it whether you can access these things.Secondly I commute on a bike, ride socially and do indoor cycle sessions. This watch will monitor my rides. Track me on GPS and give me heart rates. Plus if I listen to music access and control from the watch.I also road run and this does the same for that. Now sometimes the accuracy of the watch does fluctuate. For example. My return commute on the bike. When converted to the Adidas app showed my average speed to be 94 mph. This is incorrect obviously as I'm not Lance Armstrong. But the miles and time we're spot on. I can only assume as I had two long sleeved garment covering the watch it made it a bit squiffy. But that's ok. It only cost £50. I'm not expecting NASA type approved navigation for that price.I have to confess. I almost gave up on this watch. I'll explain why....I did my first couple of indoor rides. Over 30 miles. The watch recorded the effort I had done and a very broad guess at the Mile's I had completed. But most importantly for me that I had done the exercise. When this syncing to the Adidas app occurred. It recorded a blank session record, of all zeros. I was slightly vexed by this. I applied for a return based on this. But then whilst sitting on the toilet I had an epiphany. I realised that in fairness to the watch it has no basis to compare what I have done. The Zepp app shows the effort and recording of effort (heart rate, vo2 and such like) But not the distance covered. Again not on a budget priced watch. But according my colleagues who have more expensive watches. Not on there's neither.I kept the watch and persevered. Now I understand it better I love it.So as I'm still learning about this watch I'm finding out other good things. So if you need a good budget watch to get into the smart watch game. Definitely seriously consider this one. You won't be disappointed. Also the watch face isn't huge. Which I like. I'm not into massive watches. The strap is nice a comfortable. So when I wear it normally its slightly loose. But when I train I tighten it a hole or two for better heart rate monitoring. It charges really quickly too. Which is a godsend somedaysThe Zepp mobile app is good and not buggy. I does take a bit of getting used to fir navigating through the stuff. But this is jus repetition which will iron that out. Anyone with a modicum of sense can manage. Crikey, if I can do it. So can most and as you've guessed by now I don't work for NASA building shuttles....I hope this review has helped a bit in giving ny insight into this watch.Key points:Its simple. Its reliable. Its cheap. Also Its from Amazon, so any problems they will sort it out.

Well-designed, impressively capable, incredible value for money
This has completely exceeded my expectations and has led me to tentatively conclude that it is very close to a Fitbit Charge 4 but for less than half the cost. Despite having been physically active most of my life and taking part in competitive sports for several years, this is the first smartwatch or fitness tracker I've bought. I was interested in the Fitbit Charge 4 but didn't want to pay £130 for my first venture into this world. So I did some research and found largely positive reviews for what on paper is a direct clone of the Charge 4, right down to the GPS feature that makes it possible to track cycle rides without having to use a phone - the Amazfit Bip U Pro. I'd never heard of Amazfit before and felt I was taking a slight risk, but the price (I paid £48.30) was so good I thought it was worth a punt. Initially I was unconvinced and thinking I might return it and buy a Charge 4, but after a day of putting it through its paces, I'm really impressed and very likely will keep it.Focusing on the negatives first:1. The heart rate measurement, as noted in various reviews, is sometimes a little inaccurate. Sometimes it underestimates counts by between 5-10 bpm, and sometimes (but not all the time) it struggles to deal with changes of pace. That's not really a problem for continuous exercise, like running or cycling, but for High Intensity Interval Training it can be problematic when the exercise segments are quite short (e.g. 30 or 40 seconds) and you want accurate, realtime heart rate data during those moments. But then as I understand it the Charge 4 also struggles a little relative to a chest strap heart rate monitor and it feels accurate enough, so it's not really a deal-breaker for me.2. The manual could be a lot better. Most of the time the app is intuitive enough to use it without a manual, but for total newbies like me some guidance here and there would be useful. Thankfully I was able to find what I needed on various forums using Google.3. Delivery is currently from Amazon EU and given our glorious new status as a 'third country' with delights such as rules of origin checks for importers to comply with, it took even the best-resourced company on the planet, Amazon, nine days to get the unit from Barcelona to the UK. Given that most Amazon deliveries are next day on Prime it was intensely frustrating to have to wait nine days - lucky that the Bip U Pro is good at what it does and was worth the wait. Despite the resources available to Amazon I doubt these delivery times will improve significantly, so be prepared to wait longer than you would normally. And the positives:1. The app is excellent. As someone who didn't know Amazfit before, it was great to see that the app that the device uses, Zepp, is on the Google Play store and has been downloaded millions of times with a deserved score of 4.2. There is loads of information available on it, it syncs with the device quickly and works very well generally. The fact that it asks only for the birth month and year (and not day) of users is a nice touch, asking only for the information it needs to calculate health metrics and nothing that could pose a security risk (as birthdays are often used for security clearance questions) to customers if that data was lost/stolen.2. The GPS feature works flawlessly, finding one's location in less than a second.3. The battery life is astonishing. A friend of mine has a new Fitbit Charge 4 and is only able to get 3 hours of battery life when the GPS feature is enabled. By contrast I did a 1.5 hour cycle ride today with the GPS enabled and afterwards it still had 94% of the battery left!4. The touchscreen is responsive, and the multiple screens that can be swiped left or right for extra information are really useful.5. The quality of the unit is decent enough, and certainly better than some reviewers here have suggested. The strap is silicone, the main unit durable and the fit is snug on the wrist is and comfortable.6. The sleep monitoring feature is pretty cool, and seemingly quite accurate in terms of when one falls asleep and wakes up. Even if it's not as good as a Charge 4 here, it still motivates me to want to get enough sleep etc.7. The PAI feature, which is designed to encourage you to push yourself into higher heart rate zones rather than plodding your way to 10,000 steps, is excellent, as is the way that it automatically gets harder the more you hit the PAI targets.8. It syncs to Strava pretty well. I did need to Google how to do it, but it's straightforward really - just be aware that you may still have to go into the app to nudge it to upload your data if it hasn't done so automatically. It has various other Charge 4-like features too, like being able to take notifications from your phone on the watch, and effectively act as a remote control for music on your phone, but these don't interest me so I haven't used them.Overall, incredible value for money. It definitely encourages me to exercise, cleverly turning exercise into a goal-orientated challenge to be conquered rather than a chore to be endured (and possibly avoided). I'm so glad I bought it!
