Slippery Elm dates back hundreds of years for use as a stomach and esophagus (food pipe) soother, cough soother when diluted with water, and sore throat soother. It is made from the inner bark of elm trees in california. It can be purchased in capsules, loose powder, loose shredded bark, and whole sticks to chew on. It can also be purchased as a tea. Take powder out of capsules to dilute, starting with 2 tbs of water. Some versions require 20 min. to thicken, a few thicken right away. Look up history of slippery elm to learn more. I bought this to use on my older dog who sometimes gets an upset stomach, accompanied by loose stool. I give this to her in her food 2x a day for about 2 - 3 days, and it seems to clear everything up. It also works well for humans with an upset stomach.

Our dog has cancer and this was recommended highly in all cancer forums to settle her stomach. It has done that and we recommend this product.

I really wanted to give this a 5 star, but after taking it on several occasions, I just didn't feel that it did much of anything for my gastritis or coating to prevent stomach irritation. I still think NOW products are quality products and would recommend it as I didn't have any negative effects, but sadly it just didn't seem to have any effect on me so I may try some Slippery Elm bark instead.

LOVE this stuff! When I am in a hurry & don't have time to make slippery elm powder in hot water, I just take a couple of these. VIOLA!! Tummy pain gone!
