Rothco European Surplus Style Wool Blanket

I bought this blanket with an Amazon gift card someone gave me for Christmas. When purchasing this type of wool blanket online, there are a couple things that you think about: 1. Is this a really heavy-weight, durable blanket? and 2. Is it going to smell like crap? Fortunately, the blanket was positive in both respects!This is a 90% wool blanket and you can immediately tell when you get it out of the package. It is heavy-weight and warm! It seems tightly woven and has good loft. It is nothing like the cheaper pressed blankets you can get at discount stores. This is the real deal! I bought this to keep in my truck in case I get stuck somewhere or to take to sporting events. It is perfect for those uses! I also envision using it to do some camping and sleeping under a ground tarp and it seems very durable and would work for rugged activities like that as well.Now the big question - many of these types of blankets have a terrible chemical smell and people have to air them outside for days. Maybe I got lucky but mine had no noticeable smell and was ready right out the package!One last thought - is it soft? Not really, it's wool and it's a $30 blanket. It is not soft like you might find in a $200 wool blanket but it is soft enough to use as a throw blanket and my family has used it for that purpose as well. I like it so much I am going to order a 2nd one for my wife's car and maybe even a 3rd to keep in the house.If you are debating this blanket, go ahead and bite the bullet because it is worth the purchase!

This is my first wool blanket so i do not have a lot of experience with them but i have used them a few times so i knew what to expect.For 90% wool its a good value, army surplus? no but just as good in my opinion. To me its not too rough on the skin but you have to realize that this is a "hair" blanket and your trading softness for its proven worth. Being 90% wool has ton of advantages to Real army issue blankets, one being its heavier which makes for a warmer blanket, i wouldn't use below 50 degrees but if you can tough it out with just this at lower temps, my hat towards you. Its nice in size as well, i'm 5'11" and i can sleep mummy style in this blanket. keep you warm when went so maybe think of a poncho idea for hunting, I am already thinking about getting a smaller one cause this one is too big for that! What is in this blanket that's BAD?well like a lot of people of mentioned mine did come with a slight but heavy aroma, it certainly wasn't anything to get worked up because that's to protect your product so when it arrives it isn't damaged, After all this is a organic product. How to get rid of the smell? i suggest airing it out flat on top of a bed or flat against the floor, if your brave enough you can wash it but please don't dry it a dryer you WILL ruin it, my friend has already cried the blues about it.

What the others say is true, it does have a smell to it. The fire retardant smells and I left on cloths line outside in sun for 3 days. Smell dissipated a little but it was still there. I washed in in washing machine, a no no since this is a dry clean only. I did on gentle cycle and it came out fine. It did soften the material and made it less scratch wool like. But smell is still there, but even more dissipated than before. My wife hates the smell and wont use it, my 6 y/o daughter will use it but doesnt like smell. I think it has that old house blanket smell now, something that has been in a house for a long time. The smell doesnt bother me anymore and man is it warm, its very warm. Would make a great emergency blanket for a car/van in the winter months. And great as a couch blanket on cold nights watching a movie or tv.I would buy again, although my wife would not be happy.

Excellent “all-purpose” quasi-military surplus wool blanket. Before I made this purchase I looked through a number of reviews. Some loved it, some hated it and so I hoped for the best but was prepared for the worst.Shortly after receiving it I tore into the box, ripped open the plastic bag and took a big whiff.......no particularly unusual or bad smell. Phew, that was a relief. The blanket looked good and the texture was a little coarse as expected. Good weight. I will use this blanket primarily for picnicking and camping. It will be perfect for these activities.Overall, I’m pleased with this purchase, it looks good, the price was fair and the quality was acceptable and what I expected. This blanket lived up to my expectations; if it does not live up to yours (or you got a bad one that slipped past Quality Control) simply return it.Enuf said.

This blanket is perfect. It feels good and has a nice weight. I own a lot of very nice, very expensive wool items, and so based upon the reviews decided to take a chance on this because of the smaller size. I need a good travel blanket, especially for the sleeper compartment on the Amtrak, which is freezing in winter and this will be ideal. Love the color and the feel. My husband says the scent out of the package smells a little like gun oil to him. But the smell reminds me of the lovely scent of my wool saddle blankets (minus the horse smell, of course). It has the lovely smell of wool - lanolin and nature! I'm throwing it in the wash with some natural shampoo and then will probably air out on the line for a little while. LOVE THIS THING. I can't believe the price and just ordered a second one. Highly recommended.

Excellent blanket, very heavy, but it has an oily-rag type smell to it.I imagine, just like an old army surplus gun, they sprayed it with something to protect it.It's not that bad, but be warned, it has a slight oil-rag smell to it. I expected that from the reviews, for meit's not that big of a deal.Other than that, the blanket is exactly as pictured. Very heavy to the feel. Very warm.I would buy this again. I will use it for outdoors stuff, like camping.To remove the smell, I've read that you leave it in the sun for several hours, even days if possible, without letting it get wet.I will try this and report back asap.Hope this review helped you. : )

匂い、触った時の油のような感じ。自分には全く感じません。自分が鈍感？なだけ。とにかく全く自分には全く不満など感じませんでした。

臭いがきつく自分でも手洗いしましたが、なかなかとれないので、クリーニング店のドライクリーニングに出しました。少し臭いは残りましたが気になるレベルではないので、そのまま使ってます。

good quality. Moth ball smell aside, I have no complaints. It's nice and weighty, warm, and a nice neutral color.
