Great product! I explain how to use it!
Excellent product! I am shocked by the negative reviews, as it sounds like most reviewers just didn't understand how to use it. When refilling this water silo, you can remove the entire trough with the silo by lifting up to remove it from the grooves that hold it in place. It works best on vertical bars. If you have only horizontal bars, you will have to remove the entire holder when you want to clean the trough. You can also remove just the silo, by lifting it up, out of the silo, but a little water might spill. Take the trough and silo to the sink, holding it upright. If you tip it upside down, it's going to spill. You need to wash the trough regularly because this is where bacteria is going the be most likely to build up. You should be rinsing/cleaning the trough and silo at least every other day to prevent bacteria and algae buildup. Clean it using a brush and warm water with blue dawn, or other suitable mild cleaner. Rinse well. Fill the silo with clean water. Place the trough onto the silo BEFORE tipping it over. Do this over the sink. There. No spills. Replace the trough on the holder by sliding the trough between the bars and then down onto the grooves of the holder for a tight fit. If you are replacing only the silo, fill it fully and quickly turn it over, over the sink. The stopper should engage right away, but some water may spill. It sounds like a lot of people went to the cage and tipped the silo over as they placed it onto the trough, which is going to cause a lot more water to spill. For the person who thought he got a backwards product (see customer photos), all he had to do was unscrew it. It's a nut and a screw, which are two individual pieces. It can be placed either way. If your product is damaged upon arrival, I would consider contacting the company. I bought two of these and they are perfect, but I have contacted different companies when I have received damaged products and they have asked me to email a photo of the damage and then just sent a new one without making me send the damaged one back. It's worth a try. The trough is 1/4" wide. (One quarter inch.) It is really only suitable for smaller birds, but if a conure can actually drink from it, then go for it. If a bird doesn't like the trough, that is not a reflection of the product, as that is only your bird's preference. This is a well designed product and I will get two more when I get a second bird. It really helps to keep the water clean, especially if it is placed up higher or away from any perches above. The bird will need a perch in front of the trough.

A Good Little Drinker for Small Birds
Works very well and does not leak! Easy to clean and refill, and holds a weekโs worth of water for four finches. I like the way the โbaseโ (or holder?) attaches securely to the cage bars. Then there is the โtroughโ part, which slides down onto the base, but can be easily removed. Finally, there is the water tube itself, which has a โspill-proofโ cap that allows you to fill it with water, then flip upside down to fit it onto the trough piece, without spilling (ok, maybe a few drops). When the tube is fitted properly on the trough, it pops up the stopper on the cap, allowing water to flow into the trough base. (BTW, the tube cap (with the pop-up stopper) is removable from the clear tube, allowing for thorough cleaning. It then fits snugly back into place.)

Amazing to me that sometimes the simple and inexpensive solution is the best solution
A rare case where inexpensive and simple is best - I've spent many dollars trying out expensive and leaky watering systems. Always disappointed. In a lark, I ordered this little plastic unit. Glad I did. I'm amazed that an inexpensive, plastic unit is better than metal and glass units that cost much more money! It works very well !!! Bebop loves it and does not try to destroy it out of his curiosity. It has been staying clean with rinsing it out whilst changing the water - but may be difficult to deep clean down the road ... but at the cost - I'll buy a new one to replace it if it gets grungy in the future - but it is surprisingly logical in design and is so far easy to keep clean. Changing and refilling water is easy and quick - the unit is a good design with the water "silo" is outside the cage and uses gravity to feed the fresh water to the inside of the cage to a small "trough" that's easy to drink from. As a side note - as Bebop climbs around the outside of his main home, he taps the water container with his beak but does not try to bite or destroy it as he apparently realizes it is his fresh water source - and Bebop really enjoys this water system and respects it - he uses it with confidence.

Best on the market by far
The product is well for a water feeder as I have two birds myself. Pros: easy to fill, long lasting water for birds, decent size, easy to assemble Cons: Does leak over time, is difficult to clean. Iโve been using this product for a very long time now and itโs been a decent product over other water products for birds Iโve seen. This is honestly the only product out there that is long lasting and easy to have as far as having water available for your birds. I will say it is difficult to clean sometimes as overtime there can be water build up on the clear tube and colored part where it wonโt come off. Thatโs mainly my only complaint. As for leakage, it does happen after a long while of long use so I suggest to purchase another one if youโve had yours for a very long time. I shall keep purchasing this product as itโs my favorite

Good product but flawed quality controls
So love the time when it works. Easy to use, most of time doesnโt leak when inserting water but quality control is low. I have ordered these 5 times already and only 2 have worked properly. On the other 3 the screw would not tighten all the way to tighten on the cage. When I tried to do so, it was so tight I couldnโt undo the screw again. I know this is not how itโs supposed to work as the other 2 are a breeze to use. Otherwise good size. Iโm going to try a 6th order nowโฆ

JW Clean Water Silo for Birds
The shipping was very fast and the product came well-packaged. I bought this for my starling because he likes to grab his own poop and fling it into the water cup. He also enjoys tearing up the newspaper and submerging the strips into the water. He also figured out that newspaper is weaker when it is wet so he tries to intentionally tip water out of the cup onto the newspaper or wet his beak to enable the newspaper to be soaked, after which he drills holes in the lining or he goes ham and tears up the paper. He also tries to wash his head in the cup on occasion. I have been using double or triple the usual amount of newspaper so he doesn't destroy it as easily but having to change the water 4x a day is not fun. What will I ever do if I need to go out for the day and he fouls the water? Enter this water silo. I rinsed it out and filled it with filtered water. My cage is slightly curved on the sides. After some repositioning, I was finally able to get the water silo attached to the cage wall into a position where it is slightly tilted forward. This allows the water to fill the trough slightly more in the front, enabling my starling to drink more easily. He has a long beak and I was worried that the trough would be too shallow. It took him just a couple of seconds to figure out it is a water dispenser. He is usually deathly afraid of anything new I add to the cage, especially brightly-colored things, so he surprised me with his willingness to use the trough and his lack of fear. This is the first time he hasn't freaked out due to something new since he was a fledgeling. The water silo has been mounted off the floor of the cage so my starling needs to climb up on a perch to drink. This has eliminated all his newspaper and poop shenanigans and he likes to peck and probe the body of the water silo, so it is also sort of like a new toy. I can finally use a normal amount of newspaper. The attachments are secure and easy to figure out. For the price, it seems to be doing a wonderful job. The stopper doesn't have one of those sensitive ball designs that can easily get clogged by foreign matter. You can choose to remove just the water tube or the entire trough along with it, although the latter takes a little coaxing. Much more convenient than unscrewing the entire thing every time you want to change water or clean the silo or trough. I don't get these negative reviews, you can even remove the screw and nut to reverse the direction you want to mount this thing in. I can see the attachments maybe loosening up with heat or sheer age but for the price, this is a wonderful addition to my starling cage.

It worked
Great water cup for bird but it is too big and flips out when I cover cage at night or move cage around bubbly when the cover hits it and the last time it flipped out hit the floor and cracked !! Not the product fault but just too tall for side of cage and they didnโt have a smaller one to purchase ..I like this style as itโs easy to remove refill clean and re insert into holder .. birdied liked it too !!!

Great Product
I purchased a couple of these to use in a large flight cage for my parakeets. Prevue Pet Products Wrought Iron Flight Cage with Stand F040 Black Bird Cage, 31-Inch by 20-1/2-Inch by 53-Inch When I first looked at the small size of the drinking trough I was very skeptical. However, I decided to give the item a chance and installed one of them. Within a few days my "keets" had figured it out, and the water level began to reflect its regular use. These are now the only water sources for my birds, and they work beautifully. As with any water or food dispenser, I always suggest you use more than one in case something goes wrong (there is a small ball valve, and any water source can get fouled). This is especially true if you are going to go out of town for a couple of days. But, for small birds, I can wholeheartedly recommend these waterers. And it is so convenient to be able to service them from outside the cage - no more spills from maneuvering through the cage door and around perches. As for the review which was so critical of this item, I am wondering if they gave the birds a chance to discover it? Birds are cautious of new things, and at least in the case of my birds, they don't use anything until it has been around long enough to be considered "safe" by them. The quality of this item is adequate, and quite typical of most plastic bird cage accessories. I would not consider it to be "very cheaply made" - just your average plastic manufacturing in my book. My one caveat with this item is that I do not believe the trough is adequate for anything other than small birds like "keets" and canaries, but then that is what the product description says too, so no surprise there.

It works well.
Much cleaner option than a water dish. The budgie has worked out how to drink from it. No more seed and feathers in his water container. Easy to assemble and attach to the cage.

Water Silo Leaks Like Crazy
I have a Hagen Vision cage for my budgie and bought this water silo to use instead of the ugly brown (I think it is officially 'terracotta' coloured) container supplied by Hagen. The JW silo does not fit the Hagen cage very well and changing the water a couple of times each day was a fiddly process. I would have put up with this but within a couple of days of use the silo developed a slow leak. It empties itself overnight -- next morning the floor of the cage is soaking wet. I chucked it away and substituted with a drip bottle (the sort used for rodents with the ball bearing in the spout) bought from Wilkinsons (a cheap shop on the High Street). This was also a pain to change and I then started using a plastic water bowl which hooks to the bars of the cage and is a doddle to change (also from Wilko). I bought four bowls and just rotate them so the water is always fresh and clean. Typically, my budgie tends to ignore his official hygienic water supply and drinks from his bath(!) Whaddya gonna do? One other complaint -- the illustration shows a bright green colour but the item supplied to me was an ugly white-yellow colour which put me in mind of dead skin and municipal urinals. I would have thrown the silo out even if it hadn't leaked just on the basis that something that ugly should not be allowed.

Very good product
This product is a game changer. I don't have to change and refill my bird's water all the time. It's easy to assemble and clean as well. I recommend it.

Easiest to change water & clean
Been looking for this particular water dispenser. It's easy to clean & fill with water. Without the need to inconveniently put your hands in the cage. Highly Recommended!

Good design
Very good, keeps the water clean and no clip to break apart after some use like my other water feeders have done...
