Doubleplusgoodness!
A masterful work, really. The book describes the relationships of muscles and bones, nerves and thought, and the inherent design in the human body that allows "the whole" to function at maximum efficiency. The author devotes half of the book to the science involved, and the other half to the "art" of learning to allow the body's design to manifest without harmful interference . . . by ourselves. The text is both educational and practical, though far, far from a typical "how-to" or self-improvement manual. Each chapter is written very precisely, in a human voice but without over-simplifying the subject matter, patiently in-forming the reader and helping him or her to re-collect what is being described. And though the author presents his ideas coherently and congruently, it cannot have been easy -- for he is describing "wholeness" in human activity, running the gamut from thinking and reacting to the subconscious to the capacities of nerves and muscles to the alignment of bones, and how it all can function elegantly. Some of the information he presents IS found here and there in books and workshops, and practices like martial arts or dance -- but Mr. Dimon ties it together and wraps it in a beautiful package. (Kudos, btw, to North Atlantic Books, the publisher.)Having read it, what's a body to do? I would suggest, "seek first to understand . . ." and RE-READ the book! If one can wrap one's mind around the subject and seriously ponder what is written, then some of the author's clarity will take root. Having been given an accurate map, the way forward and up will be seen.Highly commended, and re-commended!

Illuminates how the body is designed to work - scientifically and practically!
Excellent book - a uniquely comprehensive approach that makes sense of the whole system -body and mind- scientifically AND practically. Dimon presents not only the science behind the body/mind connection, but an actual explanation of it. As a person interested in the Alexander Technique, this is clearly a must-read, but I would go even further and recommend it to anyone interested in understanding the body’s organizing principles, mindfulness, and how to use our bodies more consciously, healthily and efficiently.

The most comprehensive book on the subject
More thorough, fundamental, and logically organized than any other books related to the Alexander Technique, while also being one of the most readable.

Very unoriginal and pompous book
This book claims to cover the latest discoveries in science, anatomy, and mindfulness to form a new understanding of how the body works. It is interesting to note that Dimon not only never talks about mindfulness, but more importantly, he fails to acknowledge where he got his inspiration. Most of the book seems to be highly influenced by the work of David Gorman on “Anatomy of Wholeness” and "Learning Methods", who explains these ideas with more clarity and understanding than Dimon does. Additionally, I found the index and references extremely lacking.

Highly recommended. Ted Dimon's book Neurodynamics gripped me for several reasons: not only is the author obviously highly qualified in his field and has an amazing amount of knowledge, but he also writes with a clarity that literally jumped at me while reading. His clarity means that the reader is taken consciously and carefully through complicated fields but never gets lost along the way. Dimon connects a vast amount of information in a readable manner and I was repeatedly amazed at the complexity that was nevertheless "simply" presented. That means I read a chapter, put it aside, digested and read the same chapter again later absorbing, my mind agog. Only someone who has worked on himself for years in the field of "mindfulness in action" can write like that!
