Great Deal For the Price
All other methods of adding Airplay involve replacing the existing in dash unit which is more expensive and more complicated. This unit is simple and does the trick for me so I am a happy camper. Even better, I can move it to other vehicles such as the u-haul I plan to rent later this month and drive cross country. The cords are annoying and the mount is a little crude but it works and works well and that is what is most important to me. The screen is responsive to touch. In fact, it is more responsive that I expected at that price point. My buying advice would be to keep your expectations low. At the low price you are paying, the minor hassle of cords and mounts are well worth the addition of Airplay to your vehicle. If you want a cord free experience and no mount, spend more dough and get an in dash model for at least double the price.

Decent value for CarPlay! Got it for $250 on prime day.
As an standalone CarPlay unit that doesn't require a complete car stereo swap, it is the best solution currently available. This is coming from someone who used to have an alpine stereo with CarPlay before getting a new car. I immediately updated to the newest firmware available listed on their website. Unfortunately, the QR code for the update on the included warranty card does not work so you will have to manually look for it on their website. Simply download the .rar file and extract all the files onto a usb drive and use it to update the unit. TLDR: CARPLAY WORKS, WAS ONLY $250 (on Prime Day) AND A LOT CHEAPER THAN AN AFTERMARKET STEREO INSTALLATION --- all without lower your car value by removing stock components. PROS: - CarPlay works with no issues, simply have your lightning cable plugged in and it will automatically boot into CarPlay view - IPS display while a bit low res if you compare to your phone, is bright and easy to read even in strong sunlight (I personally like it better than some of the non IPS displays in aftermarket stereos) - touchscreen is responsive without choppy animation complaints in other reviews - cable connected CarPlay is still the quickest and most stable way to use CarPlay (without having a high end car) compared to Wireless CarPlay CONS - - you will have a LOT of cables to try to cable manage - audio quality is definitely not as good as modern standards, the aux cable port appears to only support mono and not stereo audio - the FM radio transmission option is not HD so at times you may get some static (this seems to have improved with the firmware update but I will need to test more) - with a curved unusually shaped dashboard (honda accord 2017), the display is only supported by the windshield mount, not resting on the dashboard - the physical look of the product definitely is a bit dated - because it is not connected to the car stereo via bluetooth, your radio controls will not work with the product (you need to use the touchscreen to skip tracks, call someone, etc) - 7 inch screen is a bit small for my taste, but there is very limited room on the dash before it can interfere with your view for driving. 6/24/21 This is only day 1 of my use of the product. I will update this review if there are major changes.

Such a great alternative!!! 10/10!
Such a great alternative if you have an older car but donโt want a new car just for apple car play!!! I am a cord freak. I had cords and always hide them, this was a challenge but not bad. Sound quality through fm transmitter is really good so I could eliminate the aux cord. It has to be plugged in via cigarette lighter/ car charger to be able to turn on and you have to use your phone charger to get car play to work (even brand new cars require you to plug your phone in for car play so Iโm fine with the phone charger but this big power cord had to be hidden. So I took apart my dash/ radio area to run the cord behind it and hide it. It look about 40 minutes but I am not a car girl so took longer to figure out how to take it apart lol. But the end product is beautiful and I am very satisfied!! My car is a Lexus CT200h so I canโt just replace the screen for car play, I would have replace the screen and completely rewire everything which I was not doing and would have cost $500 to do it myself and probably $1000 if I bought the needed materials and paid someone to do it. So to do this for $288 is great. Recommend!!!!

Completely stopped working after 6 months, customer service no help
EDIT 3.1.22 - was able to get in contact with the customer service company after contacting Amazon directly to get the correct contact information. In order to to use the 1-year warranty on the product, they instructed that I needed to send the product in and to pay for the shipping. After paying $50 for shipping to get it cross country, I received the product 1 month later with the problem not fixed and no communication from the warranty provider. I have called their customer service line multiple times since and have been put on hold for north of an hour with no answer. Product is cheap and the customer service is no help. Save your money and do not buy this product. There are FAR better alternatives out there. Disappointed that a great company like Car and Driver treats their customers like this. --- Product was great for the first 6 months. Worked well and was a relatively cheap way to get Apple Carplay. After 6 months, the product completely stopped working. Would not connect to Apple CarPlay with any phone or cord. The product still turned on, however the carplay features would not work. Tried to reach out to customer service but the information listed on the product page is for Car and Driver magazine only. Aka, there's no customer service for this product. Do NOT buy.

Exactly what I was looking for!
I'm honestly not sure why thus has such bad ratings. It's exactly what I needed. My car is 1 model year before Apple Car play was added by my manufacturer, and a few years before Android auto (don't know exactly when Android Auto became a thing)... My GF has an iPhone, and I have a Samsung Galaxy... Her car is 3 years newer and has both already... But my car will only play music off of an iPhone almost like connecting a hard drive or something. I saw this and had to have it. I haven't mounted it yet, so no pics, but I hooked it up to test it, and it's amazing! I can connect my galaxy using Bluetooth, but the sound isn't great... This connects with Bluetooth as well... Ehhh... It can also connect through the FM transmitter which doesn't sound great either... What's a person (that wants quality audio) to do? Connect it to your stereo using the provided aux cord. Sounds pretty dam* good... I don't like the GPS that came with my car, and shows on my original screen, so this allows me to use Google maps on my newer secondary screen that will be mounted just above... Honestly, the only drawbacks I can think of is that since it's connected using the aux cord, I can't control the music with my steering wheel controls (but a quick tap of the screen works, or saying "Hey Google, Next song")... And the other is finding the best way to route the cables so they aren't just dangling down my dash and center console... Which is why I haven't taken the time to mount it yet... But there are a couple of easy suggestions right in the manual on how best to do it (and it comes with some cable clips for just that purpose), so I'll mess with it more this weekend. All in all, it looks great, and it sounds great. If your car already has carplay, and Android auto built in to your system, this adds nothing. If your car is a couple years older, this is exactly what you're looking for.

Not worth the money
Honestly speaking, this device does what it's intended to. It's easy to use, has a good display -- adjusting for day and night driving; and mounts easily (word of advice: mount it in such a way that no burglar would want to break into your car... try not to leave suction part visible when you're away from your car). The reason why I left 3 stars and say it's not worth the money is because I used the intellidash on a 4.5hr drive and the unit "disconnected" from my phone 3 times despite my phone still being plugged into it. It literally just dropped CarPlay and returned to its default screen. I had to manually unplug and reconnect my phone (mind you, going 70+ on the Highway) for CarPlay to start working again. I got so annoyed that I told myself if it happened again, I would return it (I did not but part of me feels like I should have). Also, the unit was HOT after that long drive. I was actually pretty shocked and wonder if that had anything to do with it randomly dropping CarPlay. If this were $150 or even $200, I'd be more okay. But $300 isn't fairly priced in my opinion cause it doesn't run as flawlessly as you'd think. Buyer beware!

Great upgrade for older cars without built-in CarPlay
This was an easy way to add Apple CarPlay/Android Auto to an older vehicle. The touchscreen is responsive and the display is clear. Works well for navigation and music without modifying the car. Pros: simple install, responsive screen, adds modern features Cons: audio integration depends on your car setup (Bluetooth/AUX/FM) Bottom line: Excellent option if you want CarPlay features without replacing your factory head unit.

very poor playing of mp3's on USB drive
I purchased the unit in January 2023 for use in an older car that has outdated navigation but no ability to connect to Apple Carplay or Andriod Auto... The player works pretty well with either, probably limited by the apps on the phones themselves rather than the player. The touch screen works fairly well, but as the player doesn't appear to sense light levels I must manually dim the display (only two settings, either bright or dim) using the very tiny button zones closely bunched to each other to do so, frequently resulting in either putting the unit in standby or altering the volume setting. It is very difficult do to in a moving car. The built in speaker is poor but I have found that using an audio cable to my car stereo aux input works well. Surprisingly, the audio using the phone handsfree works fairly well, both for me and people whom I am calling. My main dislike is as I usually play music from a USB drive that has an extensive collection (over 10,000 songs subdivided into theme based folders. The drive needs to be formatted as fat32 to play, and accomodates a 256gb USB drive, but it unit doesn't separate songs by folders and acts as if all the mp3 files are in one long playlist. there doesn't appear to be any way to select individual folders for play. Unfortunately, my phone lacks space to store the songs, and with such an extensive library I have no desire to stream from online subscription sources. If a firmware update is available, and It improves this function, (I have been unable to find it online), I would probably give it 5 stars in spite of the display flaws, as it otherwise meets almost all of my needs.

Solid choice for vehicles with older headunits.
I got this for $79 CND and at that price I can't recommend this thing enough. I installed it in my work truck in a few minutes and I love it. It's quick to turn on and fairly snappy when in use. The way I have mounted it is rock solid. It also came with some cable ties that I used to clean up the wiring a bit. Overall I'd say if you don't want to mess around with a permanent headunit grab this thing!

Not worth the price.
It's a nice little display with good enough touch screen capability but definitely not worth $400.. The setup is quite wobbly, the screen shakes too much and the sound quality is just awful. It doesn't connect to car's own Bluetooth for sound or even phone calls. The phone calls can only be taken on its hideous speakers or your own phone, even though the car detects the calls but no connectivity to Bluetooth for sound. I have a rental car fleet and tried it on, definitely not a good experience for customers. Good for if you have a 1990 Toyota that has nothing in it.

Safety hazard
I have an old minivan. It has a basic radio but it does have Sirius which I like. I thought that this would be nifty. It wonโt stay connected to the windshield or dash. The mounting bracket is not fit for purpose. A hands free device is not if you have to hold it to ensure that it wonโt fly around the cab of the car. It is getting returned.

A 4-stars product downgraded to 2-stars due to a CRAPPY car plug!
A product is only as strong as it weakest link and the Achilles heal of the Intellidash+ is its faulty car charger which failed to function after only two weeks of light use and transformed this pricey gadget into an expensive paperweight! After contacting customer support via phone and email, they promised to send me a replacement car charger but with no ETA so I proceeded to purchase a third party charger (GutReise Universal 12V car charger) from Amazon Canada which worked like a charm. I recommended to the vendor to bundle a spare car charger, or better yet, provide a more reliable car charger for the Intellidash+. For those considering to purchase this item, I strongly recommend that you spend an extra C$20 or so to purchase a third party car charger as it is not a question as to whether the Car and Driver supplied charger will fail but WHEN.
