The birth of our WHISKEY BARREL COFFEEstarts with the sad story of a desperate moonshiner whose wife kept on complaining that he didn't have enough get-up-an-go in the mornings So that rascal went searching for some particularly strong organic coffee beans. He found some from a far away place called Nicaragua. He dumped them green beauties into a newly emptied moonshine barrel and let them stew a bit.The outcome was what you have in your hand...a delightful flavor that puts an edge to the concoction that ya' won't soon forget. ABOUT OUR BOURBON AGED COFFEE: A local distillery provides us their used premium bourbon/whiskey barrels and we use them to age our beans for at least a week. During that week the bourbon aroma is soaking into the raw Nicaragua beans. This process creates an LIGHT Whiskey flavor that matches the strength of the coffee beans.We roast our beans at high altitude (over 7800 ft). In roasting coffee, high altitude allows for quicker roast development at a lower temperature, avoiding the two most common problems coffee roasting #1 baking the beans #2 scorching the coffee beans.Baking coffee occurs when it is roasted too long, causing inadequate expansion. This causes a flavor that is flat and lacks intensity. Scorching coffee occurs when coffee beans are roasted at too high of a temperature. It results in a coffee flavor that is wild and woody. Heat should be applied at both the lowest temperature possible and for the shortest possible amount of time.Our high altitude roasting helps accomplish that every single time (along with the 20+ years of roasting experience our roasters have).This specialty, gourmet coffee is one of the best you'll taste - and the unique whiskey flavor from premier bourbon barrels gives it a flavor and aroma that's unmistakable.
