They seem well made and the elastic is just strong enough for a snug fit. When you pick them up and shake them, they are quite loud.For a strong "cut," you can hold one in each hand and even if you strike them together only lightly you get quite a lot of sound. (Obviously you don't want to strike them too hard against each other, but then you wouldn't need to.)As it happens, they won't work for my intended purpose, which is to tap out a penetrating rhythm with the feet while playing a different one on a drum. They simply aren't loud enough for that when they are only being shaken in that way.But it's just the luck of the draw—and *NOT* the fault of the product.I donated them to a local non-profit and got a pair of small instruments (containing tambourine "zils") that slip over the toe of a shoe.

Got these for a costume for my 4 year old to wear on ankles. Works well. Been dropped several times and have only lost one strand. Durable.
