Really good PHP book
This is a good book that covers a wide range of PHP related topics including language specifics, design patterns, unit testing, databases and frameworks. It's not necessarily a beginner reference, but I don't believe that is its intention. It's still a very accessible text and I learned a lot from it. It will get you up to speed with modern PHP technologies and best practices.

Not recommend for the beginner
Not detail enough. I have to guess what the author means. Typing codes following the book cannot get the results. I like to save trees but I don't like to buy a book without enough explanations. Not recommend for the beginner.

Should be called "learning PHP 7.0 without learning PHP 7.0 or anything useful"
Ive worked in PHP 4.x & 5.x family of programs and I find this book useless for just about everyone. If you want to code PHP 7 or want to get PHP 7 to work with your existing MySQL databases get another book. If you want instructions on to use open source programs to make programs that run on PHP 7.0 your in luck. best part is all the programs are set up on your local computer so any newbie still will not be able to use a remote server for their programs or even hints on how to set it up or even were to go for help. Chapter 3 is about the only chapter useful to a serous learner and other newbie books usually have the whole book devoted to exploring in detail what is jammed into one chapter. Now to find another book on interfacing PHP 7.0 to MySQL now that I wasted $50 on this one.

Great book
The book is very interesting, well written and with lots of sample code, which helps a lot to understand the different concepts that are explained across the book.I found specially interesting the Testing section and the MVC framework implementation sample.Hands on and easy to read book, definitely recommended!

Definitely recommended to read for those who want to understand a ...
You should have at least some fundamental programming experience to understand the concept the Author trying to convey. It is high level, yet very direct to the point with concise examples. I feel understand a lot of more what underneath MVC pattern, popular frameworks such as Laravel, and Testing. Definitely recommended to read for those who want to understand a concept, not cookbook style.

Great overall coverage.
Goes into many areas and concepts including MVC, micro frameworks, full frameworks, testing, and many others. Very good survey coverage with highlighting some of the new features from PHP7.Disclaimer: I might be biased as the Technical Reviewer.
