Is this the kind that you just pull pieces off the wad in the can or do you need a separate cloth ?

Simply pull some off a wad in the can and use; does a great job but I generally clean the jewelry after with a damp cloth. Great item at a great price.

Will this remove the bluing on an old shotgun barrel? it has surface rust, and I do not wish to damage what is left of the original bluing if possible

This product didn't work for me on silver and brass, so I don't know how it will work on an old shotgun barrel.

If you use a steel wool it needs to be stainless steel wool. Otherwise you will get small amounts of rusting in the piece.
